Can I install my dtv dish at new apt. w/o doing a tranfer w/ directv

I am moving to a new apartment with a different zip code...do I really need to do the transfer through Directv? Can't I just install my dish and hook up the recievers myself, then call them and give them my new address?

The zip code won't make any difference other than getting the correct aiming parameters or your locals (if available). Once you get everything working, then call and tell them your new address.

You can, but they'd do the move/install for you for free.
