That still sucks that on the non-DVR (DTV) receivers, say you saw something interesting, you can't go back and record what you just saw. It will only record from the point you pressed record...
As for OP, no component connections are compatible with HDCP. So if channels start enforcing HDCP you'll have the same issues with a straight-component connection as you would with a HDMI to component converter.
