We want HD locals in Lansing, MI. I wanted two H-20's so I could at least use my OTA antenna with diplexers to get HD locals through the same coax used for DirecTV. DirecTV can not supply two H-20's and cannot tell me when or even if we'll ever get HD-locals. I asked if I should "move" to a different county and was told that that would be "fraud". So now I have Comcast cable and so far the pictures are awesome.

I was told by "Anthony" that the external AM 21 tuners would not work with diplexers and that neither would a SWM dish.

I was also told that refurbished H-20's are available from time to time and that I could shop other sellers and find a new one. All I wanted was HD locals at all five of my receivers, even if I had to use my OTA antenna. DirecTV had no solution except take a chance that an installer might bring me an H-20 if he had one.

Yep that's what dtv did to me also they will give me sd. Locals which look like analog so I got time warner with the series 4 HD TiVo for the local channels in HD I tried over and over and filed waivers with dtv even for the distant locals in HD and they would not even grant them the pbs net on tv is really bad picture quality for digital and yes u r right the picture is much better on cable then dtv

Many people "move" to get locals in HD. If i couldn't get them I wouldn't be with DirecTV and I can't blame you for leaving. Enjoy and hopefully it works out well for your needs.

Duplexing can be a problem unfortunately. The way D* looks at it is underserved (or unserved) markets are not a big deal to them because of the amount of households. Eventually they will be required to get to all 210 markets. I feel for ya. And for the record Comcast quality in this area is worse than Directv quality. I sat at a friends house for a week and watched the less than impressive hd quality. But if you get Hd locals from another provider I understand that also. Good luck either way.

Yea, Lets not offer HD locals in a states capital city, but lets also make them buy more equipment so they can get them OTA..D* really is making so much sense these days.

Capital cities dont mean much .

Tallahassee is the state capital of FL and there locals are not even decent looking even via OTA, why because because except for the state government there is not much there.

Albany NY another capital city HD quality is much better compared to Tallahassee but again a very wierd market.

HD locals like anything goes based on a number of factors but weither or not it a capital city is far from that list of things they go based on.

That is really not even the point I was trying to make. It was just an example of D* attitude about what the Customers really want. They seem to think they know what we want as opposed to what we really want.

Are you saying that Directv doesn't think that subscribers want locals?

Dont want to stear this into Comcast VS Directv, but while there HD channel lineup is quite impressive (at least here in the metro Detroit area) Where they get you is if you have aditional recievers, especially HD/DVR's the fees get crazy

Though keep us in the loop on your experience!

I have a swm dish with diplexers that I put myself.works great with my am21.

If anyone at DirecTV would have known and told me that diplexers and AM21's would work, especially with a SWM dish, I would have eagerly accepted their offer of three months free service, and free equipment, to stay. As it is though, two different CSRs, two different Customer Retention specialists, and two different follow-up callers after I cancelled ALL agreed with each other that a SWM dish would not work with diplexers. Further, not one of them could see a solution other than rolling the dice and hoping for H-20's. I also wanted a multiswitch for my slimline or some like solution so I could run 5 HD receivers. Who do you believe? Who do you call?

We do not decide what people want we decide what is important to put on expsensive transponder space.

Big mistake by asking if you could "move"!

You can't use diplexers with a slimline HD dish, no matter how many say they do it and it works great. It'll probably cause problems down the road for them.

Run another coax for the outdoor OTA antenna. No big deal.
