Channels mapping

ALL receivers have always shown them as a separate birds - what he WAS trying to say, is that some receivers show those 110 x-ponders as actual x-ponders 28-32, as opposed to the "moved" x-ponders of 8-12. ;) ;)

IMHO, I'm not entirely sure this is true - I do happen to have one of the first multisat IRD's (RCA480) & it's been awhile since I checked this. I'll hook it up & check it later & let everyone know.

My first generation to use 110 for HD RCA DCT-100 shows 110 as moved transponders to 119 - not separate.

My new H20 shows the 110W as a different satellite and has X's in the slot below the actual transponders.

Thus I am not sure how you can say ALL receivers have shown them as a separate bird - as I have already pointed out the RCA DCT-100 does not.

LyngSat.com ? ;)

Sorry, I am not a mathematician who has studied lyngsat enough to calculate that - and I am sure others on satellitguys.us are not either.

Your posts seem to make it appear D* can only get roughly 27Mbps out of a transponder. Clearly E* can get a lot more than that.

Thus my question.

You need just K-5 grade for that :D - to compare DTV SR & FEC with same Dish QPSK transponders using Lyngsat tables. Yes, practically you're right. Check also BFG's HD table here.

I stopped following the bandwidth crunch a long time ago, but I thought that DISH switched to 8PSK for its HDTV signals, which was supposed to get it 30% more data in the same bandwidth.

If someone has given you the formula, I am sure a third grader could do it.

However, if no one gives you the formula for adding fractions, one might be able to add 2+2 and still not be able to add fractions.

I recall Mike-DC05 (?) did post how to calculate bandwidth using SR, FEC, xPSK modulation. It was a couple years ago. Or more.

Yeah, DTV chaning the map pretty quickly. But most of core channels stay on same transponders. This new map pulled out some local channels with names, but many still keep generic. Will see if it could be solved.
I'm thinking if the numer of channel in range 9xx exist in EPG, then ppl from other regions could identify each one.

I see many differences beetween the data and DBSForum table; perhaps those data taken from opposite coast and by different equipment in different time.

I stopped following the bandwidth crunch a long time ago, but I thought that DISH switched to 8PSK for its HDTV signals, which was supposed to get it 30% more data in the same bandwidth.

DirecTV is running around 30mbps per transponder just like E* on their QPSK transponders. This is from the muxes I've looked at on 101, 110, and 119.

And yes, E* gets about 40mbps on their 8PSK transponders.

And last one for 119W.

Notice that, in this channel map, DirecTV's 119 satellite, odd transponder test channel's (492) source is transponder 27 and its evens (493) test source is transponder 28. I had thought that all five of DirecTV's odd numbered transponders in this slot were going to be operated as spot beams, which would have made it an inappropriate transponder for a universal test channel, but upon inspection of the entire transponder 27 channel program list, it looks like it is now carrying all national, and therefore CONUS, programming.

Does anyone know if transponder 27 had previously been operated as a spot beam? In DirecTV's 101 slot, they have 38 transponders of uplink capacity that are downlinked 44 times at a total of six different spotbeam transponder frequencies. In the 119 slot, they have 11 transponders but can uplink to them from three different sites, meaning they can uplink 33 transponders, so if seven are now CONUS down, then the remaining 26 are being spread an unknown number of times among four spot transponder frequency beams. I guess the ratios are similar, but we don't have as much information regarding the 119 spot beams as we so the 101 spot beams because the DBS hobbyist/enthusiasts who had collaborated to figure out just what DirecTV was doing with its 101 spot beams were not sufficiently motivated to do the same thing when 119 went into operation.

The test transponders for Sat 101 test channels 490 and 491 are transponders 1 and 2, respectively. The test source for Sat C test channel 494 is actual transponder 30, which, due to non-standard intermediate frequency shifting, is "seen" as transponder 10 on many test regimens.
