I called Charter trying to see if I could add local channels in HD only. The cheapest TV package they have is $39.99 per month! I just want like 5 or 6 local channels in HD since I am too far away from the broadcast tower, but they won't just sell the local channel packages. I could get it from Dish for $19.95! I am waiting for Aereo to show up up here in LA.

No cable company sells a la cart channels. Its another way to make money aside from the advertising. At least the upgraded interne speeds are being offered free of charge to existing customers with the 30Mpbs speed package. You check availability of the upgraded Spectrum services here getcharterspectrum.com/. As for Areo TV, i just watched this interesting clip where Katie Couric interviews the Areo CEO where he happens to mention issues with the broadcasting/pay TV industry that he is dealing: news.yahoo.com/katie-couric-aereo-tv-supreme-court-212342689

Charter please get rid of your 1990 era boxes and interface! Go with tivo boxes or someone else who can quickly bring your video product to the 21st century.

I get offers all the time wanting me to come to Charter tv. I have internet through them. I agree their boxes and software is horrific.
I have Dishnetwork for my television service. Dish Networks guide and interface(HOPPER) blows Charters out the window.

Just came from Uverse to Charter internet and TV mainly for the internet speed and I'm horrified by the TV interface. The help documents say I can setup multiple favorites lists but seems 1 list is the limit. Anyone had any luck setting up multiple channel favorites lists?

Here is a link to all of Charter's Boxes and I am amazed they are using such older technology http://www.charter.net/support/tv/digital-receiver-cable-box/

Also I don't know if you know this but you can access Charter TV on a Roku, the plus on that is it saves on box fees.

Can you watch your recordings through the Roku and or pause rewind ,etc. live TV?

Thanks!
No. You must have a DVR or Tivo for that, or stream directly from the source.

If you're looking for a cable/satellite type of experience, PS Vue is much better than Charter's streaming service. It does have trickplay for live TV and pretty complete on demand as well as a cloud DVR of sorts. That coupled with a decent OTA DVR is a great substitute for cable/satellite at a fraction of the cost.

I've been following the World Box for a while. My take is that some company sold them on the idea that they could put lipstick on a pig by essentially running web pages on all their old boxes to give them a modern interface. In practice, this hasn't really worked. The few field tests that were done had major issues and were rolled back. And this is just on simple cable boxes. They haven't even attempted it on DVRs yet, which is precisely what needs a new interface. They have had so many grand ideas, false starts and utter failures with new interfaces over the years that have resulted in nothing whatsoever, you can't trust anything they say. In the mean time, their competition has produced actual results. Motorola has a great modern GUI available, but Charter won't spend the money to get it. They insist on chasing every other cheap, half-assed scheme out there rather than biting the bullet and doing what it takes to buy or build a working solution.

Hopefully they will leverage what TWC is already successfully doing with their 6 tuner Enhanced whole home DVR system and let World Box die as it eventually will anyway. Or better yet, partner with Tivo again as they did in a few markets years ago. Adding On Demand to Tivo should be no problem if they have the will to do it. Other cable companies have done it.
