One of Arrow‘s dearly departed cast members has found new life on Chicago Med.Colin Donnell, who played Tommy Merlyn on the CW series, has joined NBC’s Chicago Fire spinoff in a series-regular role. Not much is known about Donnell’s character just yet, since work on the midseason series is only beginning, but Deadline reports he will likely play a doctor, possibly in pediatrics.Donnell joins a cast that includes Laurie Holden (The Walking Dead), S. Epatha Merkerson (Law & Order), Oliver Platt (Fargo), Yaya DaCosta (Ugly Betty) and Nick Gehlfuss (Shameless). The actor also appeared on Season 1 of Showtime’s The Affair and recently guest-starred on The Mysteries of Laura and Person of Interest. https://www.yahoo.com/tv/s/chicago-med-arrow-alum-colin-221957341.html

Chicago Med is admitting two new faces behind the scenes.Andrew Schneider and Diane Frolov have inked a deal to become the new showrunners of the freshman NBC drama, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.Schneider and Frolov were most recently co-executive producers on HBO's Boardwalk Empire and consulting producers on Amazon's Bosch. Their other credits include The Sopranos, for which they won an Emmy and a WGA award, Northern Exposure, for which they won two Emmys and two Golden Globes, Showtime's The Chris Isaak Show and The CW's Easy Money. The husband-and-wife team replaces Andrew Dettmann, who was brought on to the project in early July but departed last Friday over "creative differences." The exit came just eight days after Dettmann appeared with the cast and fellow executive producers Dick Wolf and Matt Olmstead to tout the series at the Television Critics Association summer press tour.

Chicago Med Star Colin Donnell Talks Connor's Sad Past, Mulls Arrow Return https://www.yahoo.com/tv/chicago-med-star-colin-donnell-170007755.html
This Tuesday’s episode (NBC, 9/8c) “dives a little bit deeper into why Connor has come back [to Chicago], and there’s a big storyline with D.W. Moffett as my dad,” his portrayer Colin Donnell previews. “He contributed quite a bit of money to the hospital in the name of my mother, who committed suicide,” which was “a very public thing” considering the Rhodes family’s standing in the city.As a result, the episode offers “a lot of insight into Connor’s background and why he is the way he is,” the actor continues. “They handled the doling out of the information in a really wonderful, indirect way.”Below, Donnell also talks about Connor’s tension with colleague Will Halstead and his not-so-serious hospital romance. Plus: The actor reveals how he would like to return to the Arrowverse as Tommy Merlyn — it ain’t nice — and whether he could lend his Broadway chops to NBC’s next live musical.

'Chicago Med' Star on Will's "Struggle" With Natalie and Post-'Chicago PD' Character Changes http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/chicago-med-nick-gehlfuss-interview-880678
Nick Gehlfuss talks to THR about the 'tweaks' made to his character for 'Med' and also spills the details on that big elevator fight with Connor. It's been an eventful year since Dr. Will Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) first returned home to Chicago. Introduced midway through Chicago P.D.'s second season as Det. Jay Halstead's wild card brother, Will has since graduated to all-around good guy and leading man on Chicago Med. He is currently being sued for going against a patient's wishes and saving her life — because her illness reminded him of his own mother's losing battle with cancer — and he's also nursing a hopeless (?) crush on his colleague and close friend, Natalie (Torrey DeVitto). However, for all his admirable qualities, Will is still somewhat rough around the edges, as evidenced by his elevator altercation with Connor (Colin Donnell) in last week's episode. The Hollywood Reporter caught up with Gehlfuss to talk about where the dueling doctors go from here, Will's "struggle" to give Natalie space and the changes to his character in the transition from P.D. to Med.

Is Chicago Med Ready for Romance? Scoop Straight From the Stars http://www.eonline.com/news/754295/...ady-for-romance-scoop-straight-from-the-stars
Savoring every minute of the Manning-Halstead flirtation on Chicago Med but hoping the two doctors realize their feelings for one another and lean in? So are Torrey DeVitto and Nick Gehlfuss, who tell E! News that if you're shipping their characters together you should not give up hope."What we've seen in our [season so far] is that other people around them sort of let them know what it is they're feeling that they aren't aware of yet," Gehlfuss tells E! News at NBCUniversal's Summer Press Day. Their friendship is deepening, but it could still turn into something more. "She needs time. I'm giving that to her."Yes, there's another woman in Halstead's life, but that might bring our two favorites together rather than drive them apart. "I think there needs to be a moment when Natalie realizes there's another woman in his life because I don't think she realizes that's what's going on," says DeVitto. The duo also dished on Halstead's lawsuit and Manning's case last week involving wrongly accusing a fellow mother of child abuse.
