When I joined SatGuys in 2006 there was some postings about a possible dish mesh reflector. I remember in the pic it looked like grating material. Does anyone remember that?

Just no benefit in it. The hole size would need to be quite small not to leak at DBS frequencies and there would be very little wind-force reduction. The whole point of DBS was to be able to use a dish so small that wind wouldn't grab it in any kind of manner as with C-band size dishes. And also so small that its obtrusiveness is a couple orders of magnitude less than the C-band sizes where making them semi-transparent (through perforation or mesh) was deemed an aesthetics benefit as well as wind-load reducer.
