Lately I have been noticing the effects of compression and decompression. While watching fast action movies I see lots of bad video during fast action. A particularly good example is the Universal HD commercial. Each time I see it, at different point in the commercial I see blocky compression artifacts. Its at a different point in the commercial every time I see it.

I have to wonder if the STB has enough CPU to keep up with the compression. I also have to wonder if setting the output to 720P is any easier on the STB than setting to 1080i. If so, while watching fast action movies maybe I should set the box to 720P. Any comments?

I am just hoping that as they migrate over to the new compression method things improve. Some say the new compression (MPG4) will not allow more HD channels as they are limited to 3 HD channels per transponder and a 20% more efficient compression method won't be enough to add more HD channels. I say, hey as long as the video gets 20% better I am happy.

Thanks!
