I understand that cable and sats must compress HD signals. My question who does it the least and does it really matter? I can't find any info about Voom compression and I heard that Direxct TV does less compression than Dish.

Any info would be valuable...I hope.

I am planning on getting a HD system soon and am trying to figure out the best way for getting programming.

You really can't do anything about what, when or how much any of the providers compress. Nor can you control if one day the one that does it the least, now does it the most to add more channels. The only thing we as end users can do is to voice our displeasure to the provider we choose based on particular channels or packages offered and at what cost. Maybe throw in a kicker for what promotions they have at the time. For every 100 you read that says V* is better to their eyes and ears, you will hear 100 for the other two, and that goes for cable too.
