I was almost ready to sign up for hd with dish network until I found this site.
I am currently on digtial cable but no hd. I have been told that hd on cable will not be available for a couple of years in my area. I was going to sign up for dish hdtv with locals until I started reading the post. I live 50 miles from Macon Ga which was added as a dish local last month. Do I still need a ota antenna to get these stations. or just a ota antenna to get them in hd. Is the dish hdtv service worth switching is really what i need to know with all the problems I have read about on this site

Just for the HD. If your locals are doing HD at full power, you should be able to receive them. Go for it!

To see if you qualify for local channels on Dish Network visit this page on their web site.

To make things clear the locals available via satellite are SD only. For all carried markets, from both Dish Network and DirecTV. To receive local channels in HD you will need an OTA antenna.
