Connect Bell Receivers Via Ethernet

I just purchased a couple of Bell receivers and am getting ready to set up service in the US. I know not to hook them up to the phone line but can I hook them up to an ethernet connection to keep up on software updates to the units. They should not be able to tell I am in the US, or can they?

Software is updated via satellite there's no need to connect to broadband. and yes they can tell you're in the US.
