crazy remote

I have 2 directv receivers but have been having a problem with the remote in my living room. The remote simpy will control my Sharp TV from time to time (once every 4 months or so) and just will be fine for a few hours and will then just stop. It is a Directv R10 and I have been sent 3 replacement remotes - none of which will work on the TV, but all will operate the other TV in my bedroom, which is a Mitsubushi.

Directv technical support basically gave up. Does anyone have any ideas of what I can do? Using the controls on the received get old.

I'm wondering... does the TV's original remote work the TV reliably? If not, then the TV could have a problem.

What type of TV are we talking CRT,Plasma,LCD or projection?

The TV is a Sharp and I believe it to be a CRT (I've had it for about 10 years). The remote for the TV works just fine all the time. It just that the remote for the Directv that is the problem. I forgot to include that tech support at Directv actually sent me a new receiver as well, but I always got the same result.
