What manufacturer makes the D12-100? Thats what Direct sent me as a replacement. I notice the signal levels are higher on it than the D-11 almost all 100. I wonder if it has a better threshold when it comes to rain fade. This unit is a refurbished also, I hope this one holds up better.

What does Direct do on their end when they refurbish a receiver?

Technicolor (Thomson, RCA)

That depends on how much higher the sigal quality ranks. All other things being equal, performance should be about the same.

As little as possible. I would imagine that they vacuum it out, wipe it down and put it in a refurb box.

I suspect the incidence of repair is somewhere between seldom and never.

well you're a SD only customer who doesnt want a DVR.....thats the only option really

possibly...but unless you compare the two we really dont know

my mom has one of these for 3 years...works real good for what she needs on one TV

they probably check it over and if it looks good they send it back out.....kinda like when people return stuff at wal-mart and they opened it ;)

Actually I have a awesome tuner card in one of my PC's. I need to hook up a few A/V cables then I can record in stereo from all my satellite sources and burn DVD's etc. I'm too lazy to run the cables since I have too many other things going on lately. So I just use the VCR to record now. ;)

As far as signal goes I got 95-100 before with like 1 or 2 being 100, now its most of them. What I'm getting at is I heard that the SWM setup has a better sensitivity than non SWM receivers. I wonder if that holds true with the D-12. (see picture)

BTW Ice all they want is my access card back I can keep the D-11 receiver. Maybe I'll take it apart and fix the card reader switch. I bet that's where the problem lies with it. Then I'll have a spare :).

my mom has a D12 and her signals are the same on a SWM setup as a 18" setup my sister has. Both have D12's in the setup (along with other models)

The fact you are using a larger than normal size dish might help a little bit rain fade wise but if its a 98 or 100 on the meter that point really is moot. Its a minimal difference

As you know Ice some FTA receivers hold up better under poor signal conditions than others. Is this hold true between different manufacturers of Direct's boxes? I wish we could get some real tech spec's somewhere. Do you know of any place? You know me by now Ice I've been in the satellite game for 24 years and know that a receiver with a lower threshold will always work better under adverse conditions. Back in the 80's average threshold was 8db on receivers, than Uniden came out with a lower than 7 threshold and it made quite a difference. I know if I called Direct they could not answer my techy questions since they only can read from a script. Before I got Direct I was trying to get some tech questions answered by them and they didn't have a clue of what I was talking about. They told me to mail NOC

in most cases the Directv box the new model they just change one minor thing....from what I've read the only difference between color is the D12 works with a SWM setup whereas the D11 doesn't...Its kinda like the R15 & R16 SD DVR...the R15 wont work with SWM, the R16 does. Otherwise they're identical.

Maybe stonecold has some technical info that he can provide
