Directv box not powering up

Directv box will not power up. Record light stays on. Their Tech says I need a new box, and will loose all recorded material. Is there any way to save the recorded programs?

Have you tried to unplug it for 5 minutes than plug back in

Sounds like your hard drive is dead so there is nothing you can do other than replace the unit, and yes you have lost all your recorded programs. Just one of the bad things that happens with a hard drive.
