The new season started last night. I have it DVR'd and will be watching later. This is always a favorite of mine. Anyone else watch?

Always been one of my favorites. What a way to start the season huh !!!

I feel bad for Phil. Sorry to see that outcome. Hope he overcomes this terrible situation.

Watched it... what a great season starter. In fact a buddy and I have a 3 year tradition now of getting crab legs the night of the season premiere. It's our way of showing our respect to the fisherman and support their industry. I know it's silly but it's good to have traditions. There are only a few shows on TV that I can stand other than sports or educational shows.. and this is one them.

I love the tradition sabersaw! That is great. I may implement it for the season finale this year! That is, if you don't mind me stealing your idea.

Nope don't mind.. go right ahead. It's easy to understand why a crab leg dinner costs so much now! Sig said in the first season I believe to go buy some crab. If that's what it takes for such a great show then so be it.

Wow, crazy start to the season. I wonder how much these captains clear per year when averaged out over say a 10 year period. They get a large amount for their catch, but haven't ever shown (that I remember at least) how much they actually make after expenses. This episode had several references to the high overhead costs that these guys face.

It appears that the captains clear a pretty good amount. The only downfall is the repair/upkeep.

You may go 3-5 years without any major repairs, but all it takes is just one to wipe out your savings.

Yeah, that's exactly what I mean. I'd love to know what these guys make over the long term. It seems like it could be a very good living, but you're right about the repairs potentially being devastating.

I thought last week was sad. Oh my gosh. This week was a killer. I can't even imagine what those guys went through in that raft for 15 hours. And for the ones that didn't make it back, may God bless their souls. Kinda puts a new perspective on how hard your job really is...

I A.D.D'd out on this episode....kept mashing the 30 second skip button looking for some crab fishing after the first 15 minutes of the episode.

I understand the importance of showing the story of the Katmai but it was just about the entire show.

I understand your sentiment but,

This season seems to be more about the harsher realities of the industry.

The show has always emphasized the dangers of the job, following the stories of men overboard and the inevitable sinking of a boat and loss of life.

But look at what is going on this season:

Capt Phil: years of abusing himself with Cigs, coffee, stress etc, finally caught up with him and now he's not fishing.

Sig, put 500,000 or so into the boat. Gotta have a big season to make that up.

Wizard Capt. Keith with the mouth cancer scare. He also put $400,000 into the boat and now he's essentially broke, listen to the conversation he had with his wife.

The Katmai sinking. Harrowing and tragic story.

This is a reality show, Sure looks like they're putting the reality back into it.

I love this show. Nothing better then when you miss couple episode and then get to watch the DVR'd ones in a row.

I thought the Katmai thing was too much too, sad or the people who lost their lives, but too much of the show for a ship we never heard of before.

Good episode tonight. I can't imagine being on one of those boats in a storm. I don't get seasick, but it makes me want to puke watching the motion from some of those big waves!

Great episode! Reminds me the many times out in the Gulf of Mexico on crew boats and work boats going to a platform or rig.

I have quite a few stories from boats tearing up....being dead in the water, bobbing like a cork in a storm... captain having to tend to an issue with a motor so I ended up bring us into port with zero visibility and nothing but the radar.... worst ride I had was a 12 hour boat ride out and I had to tie myself to the seats laying down so I would stop flying out of the seats.
