My guardian and feeder is a nice guy however his satellite operations send me into a fright. Every time he tries to peak his dish he uses the audible tones from the Coolsat receiver. He opens a window, sets a loudspeaker pointing outside where it is -20 on a good day cranks up the volume and sets the receiver on manual scan to get a weak transponder/channel and tries to get as high a frequency tone as possible while nudging the dish up, down, left and right. The problem for the feline community (and probably for neighbours as well in a non-rural location) is that the low tones drive us nuts and I have to run and seek shelter in the remotest part of the house and won't come out for half a day until I am sure that he has finished.

I note that he tries to diminish the pain by disconnecting one of the loudspeakers that is not pointing outside, but what can he do to transmit the tones to a pair of headphones outside so that he can do his thing in private without scaring the bejabbers out of me?

LOL....well kitty, tell your owner to either get a signal finder to hookup outside and not use the receiver, or get a very long headphone cable. he can buy premade extension cables, or a bulk roll and have him make his own length.
good luck kitty....

Here is what I use when my dumb owner does the same thing. !!!!!!!!

Thank you for good suggestions.

After eating my usual breakfast of mouse parts I suddenly had a great idea. My so-called 'master' finally realized what to do when I unplugged the headphones he uses on his keyboard and knocked over his 2.4 GHz phoneset (which has 2 extensions) at the same time. He thought I was being normally destructive, but he got the idea anyway.

He plugged the headphones into the sound out instead of the speakers, had one of the handsets 'page' the other, put the one handset microphone pickup between the headphone pads and turned the other handset to speaker mode. The advantage is that the phone line cannot carry the low tones very well. When the dish is really off target you just get clicking and no tone, but when it starts to find the higher tones these come through really well. Now he just has to try hard not to get the two phones into a feedback situation.

Meeeow!

And don't forget to report him to the Kitty Cat Commission!

I don't mind my caretaker's satellite hobby. His dish farm on the shed roof makes a GREAT place to sleep, and he even leaves the ladder against the shed for me to climb up and down on! Just so long as he doesn't step on me when he's climbing down :D

Purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....

In my case, I plug a C Crane FM Transmitter into the A/V Receiver that the Fortec Mercury II is connected to:

Then I wear Sony FM Headphones:

tuned to the same station. (Yes, that is my review that is featured. :) )

PS Normally, I have the C Crane FM Transmitter connected to a PC sound card that is fed by Winamp that is always tuned to my favorite Internet Radio Station:

They make very long audio extension cords that are sold at Radio Shack. I currently have a couple of 20 footers strung together that's sending a signal from my computer's sound card in the attic to soundblaster audigy on the main floor. I have where they connect to one another wrapped up tight in electric tape to keep out the rain. For his use, it shouldn't be hard to put a few of those together and toss the cord on the roof where the dish is. Sound quality is nearly perfect over a very long distance with this setup. I mainly use this stuff to get sound from the computer to the living room since for some oddball reason I can get picture from computer to tv over the ati all in wonder fine, but for weird reasons I can't explain sound doesn't want to move through that like it should.

Hi:

My owner has one of those telephone systems that have two handsets. He used to leave one phone on the floor near the TV and carry the other one onto the roof and set them up for 'intercom'. He could hear the TV pretty good.

I quickly put a stop to that by stealing the phone by the TV and hiding it with the rest of my stuff. Took him a while to learn not to do that!
