Are there different amplifiers for different types of signals? Would I need a different amplifer for satellite signals vs ota signals? IF so what is a recommend brand?

Make sure the amplifier you purchase covers the frequency band of interest and check it's noise figure (the lower the number the better).

For OTA I used an cable drop amp that was install by the cable company at my house to boost thier signal due to the long cable run to my house. When I disconnected form cable I tried to return the amp, but they said it belongs to me. It covers 50mhz-950mhz. It has worked out great for me. This type of amp will not work for satellite only for OTA.
