do they use the same satellites cause some people in my neighborhood have direct and there pointed more southeast and dish network more southwest

Diff sats same direction, Dish uses 119 for primary while Direct uses 101 so that's where you see the arms in diff directions, 17 degrees. However D* uses the 110 slot and 119 slot for specialized programming and locals, hence when you see a dish 500 at the neighbors house and a D* 3 sat at another they seem to look in the same direction.

Depending upon where you live, you may get the 3LNB Slimline but most likely it will be a 5 LNB Slimline for the HD programming.
