When I had Directv several years ago their App was very limited in what you could watch over your home wifi, unlike Dish Anywhere where you can watch every channel.

Has this changed? I'm thinking of moving back to Directv so I can pick up my RSN baseball this year and curious if the Directv App has improved in this regard. Anything else I should consider?

Thanks

I have no problem watching every channel when on the same home wifi network. Sometimes I may have to force stop the app first.

Of course it doesn't work on my Windows desktop, just Android.

The distinction here is home wifi versus somewhere else. Yes, there are restrictions on what you can watch if you're not on the same network as the receiver.

As long as you're actually home you can watch anything on the app that you subscribe to.

When I was trying to use it at home, I was finding that not all channels were available, RSN was unavailable, anything basically above 600 was unavailable, so no RSN's, no ST, or MLB EI.

The App has been poor since the day it came out.

I haven't tried out of the home lately.

My understanding is...

Dish purchased the 'sling' tech company.
Dish owns the tech used to stream from the home unit to remote device/location.

Direct does not have license to this 'sling' tech.
Direct cannot stream from home unit to remote device/location.
Direct's app redirects/repackages streams from original source.

Dish,
Your home unit receives 'live' discovery channel feed.
Your home receiver processes the live feed and pushes that live feed via internet to your remote device.
Anything you can see at home can be sent to remote device.
You are watching your receiver, remotely.

Direct,
You log into Direct's server,
You select discovery channel (example).
Direct connects you to discovery channel streaming options (if allowed/provided by discovery).
You are watching Direct's and/or discovery's server.

DishAnywhere also offers some channels streamed directly from the source without passing through the receiver.

There have been companies that have sold (sling type) STBs by different companies....Years ago I had a Vulcano and it was solid..But it was just before HD was the norm....10 years ago?
