Hilliard, Oh
I am having the Genie installed tomorrow which will be an upgrade over the whole-home HD DVR I currently have. Install free of charge. I have been with D starting in 1999. Right now I have Time-Warner Road Runner for internet and Phone service. Now with the Time-Warner I am paying over $118 a month. My questions is with bundle packages is the internet cable or DSL. I can't seem to find what ATT&T brings to the party. Also would like Pro and Cons on the bundle packages.
Thanks

Isn't UVerse basically dsl?
How do I answer that question ?

Is Cable internet Broadband ?

U-Verse is the Overall name for ATT's TV, Internet and Voice.

DSL is the Old att internet, it was limited to 6 mg in most instances.

Using the U Verse internet system they are currently getting up in the area of 60mg in my area, more in different areas.

In the not to distant future, att will be selling nothing but VOIP for phone service, at least thats thier grand plan for those that can, landline I am sure will still be available for those that want it.

When this new technology first started, I use to get the Broadband is better than DSL .... in reality, both are just internet.
Cable company used the Broadband name, we used the dsl anme, bot doing the same thing.

not really....

U Verse is at&t's version of Verizon Fios.....

Actually, it is DSL. Uverse uses VDSL / ADSL2/2+. It depends on how ATT has set up your system. All of the Fiber users who are on Uverse use GPON. That is more like Verizon fios. Rule of thumb is if your on copper then it's DSL, if your on fiber then its GPON.

The TV portion is IP Multicast. Basically its like watching a video from netflix. The delivery is the same for the most part. The video is delivered as data and decoded and re presented as video at the users box.

I thought they stopped building out their system a while ago.

Had the Genie installed on Tuesday. Had Veterans day off. The one thing I am not happy with this is I didn't know that the GenieGo was separate to the Genie. So I called about the GenieGo but the rep kind of talked me out of it because our laptops have windows 8 and the rep stated that the GenieGo has problems with Win 8. Also the installer gave the receiver 34 not the 44. I kind of want the newer 44.

The 34 vs 44 is a raging debate. Even though the 44 has been out for quite some time, not every shop has them and Directv is going to use up all the inventory of 34's before they make the 44 their number one provided whole house DVR.
I think it sucks that even if a customer specifically requests the 44 be installed, the company allows itself to install the 34 via disclaimers.
This is perhaps the number one reason I have not considered in more than a passing glance a switch from E* to D*......

Not sure about AT&T, but this is true regarding Verizon. After aggressively starting out of the gate gobbling up markets, they stopped expanding into new markets 2 or three years ago

Surprisingly enough, there is only one town in CT with FIOS. Not surprisingly, it's Greenwich.

No way..U Verse is Fiber to Node. The rest of the trip is copper to home. U Verse touts 50 mbps at the gateway installed at the home.
Of course with the disclaimer that speeds may vary depending...

I was referring more to the available speeds than the actual infrastructure. I didn't know they could get speeds as high as 50.
