Just got this... but no other information. I have not seen a C61 myself. Hopefully our friends from iamanedgecutter.com can provide more details of this receiver. I do know that the C61 DOES NOT do 4K, for 4K you need a C61K or a TV that has DIRECTV 4K RVU support.

Here is the info we have received from DIRECTV.

DIRECTV is excited to announce the national launch of our newest client in the Genie system, the C61. This next-generation hardware will continue to leverage our exceptional technology and customer interface, with identical functions and capabilities to the C51; however, the C61 capitalizes on lessons we’ve learned from our manufacturing processes to allow this new client to be produced more efficiently. Because the C61 functions identically to the C51 and C41, technicians should be able to seamlessly transition to using the C61, and as such, no field training is planned at this time.

As sites run out of stock of older client models, C61 stock will be available for use. Sites should continue to consume first-in-first-out to exhaust the C41 and C51 stock before issuing C61 stock to technicians.

Please note there is no wireless version of the C61 at this time. Wireless installations will still require the C41W.

That's what receivers and dvrs are for.
Not if you want to save yourself $200 and have full integration.

Whats the purpose of another client thats exactly the same as the last 4?
Wow what a break through...

DTV better get with it. They cannot keep up with 16 tuners of the H3 and the 2 year price lock without having to bundle. I will say this much. I install both DTV and Dish. I think I lose a little bit of myself when I have to a H3. LOL

The bundle thing is beginning to piss me off.

It's bad enough not all areas can get their crappy internet, but then not everyone can or will switch their cell service to AT&T

The bundle requirement should only exist when ATT internet is available

I don't think they look at it that way .... very rarely do most people have a need for 16 tuners.
Yes, those on these type of sites that know about this stuff may, but the general population that has D* has no need for that many.
It wasn't long ago that D* was being praised for the 5 Tuners it had ... remember dish only had 2-3 at the time.

Nobody says, just because the other company has something that D* has to also.

I would hope that you could achieve it via a USB/ethernet connection?
I was thinking with that rumored all in one headless server/modem/router combo unit that might come out in 2019 the clients could hook up to that using Ethernet.

As more services like Sling TV comes online, I can see the newer providers laughing their butt off when both DirecTV and Dish goes the way of the old analog C-Band. I remember Ergen laughing his butt off during the Charlie chats about analog's demise. Now, I can see Ergen's empire, along with DirecTV's going the way of analog as more people in outlying areas gain high speed internet access. Even now, NetFlix and some others are delving into offering a streaming package carrying the popular cable channels.

I can even see the end to companies like Time Warner who offer cable and internet, and their transition into an internet only company. I told Charlie Ergen more than once to remember, "the asses you kick on the way up, are the same one's you kiss on the way down." I wonder how he feels now with the advent of streaming services? Small dishes were offered as an alternative to the BUD's perched on a pole on your lawn, and they played it to the hilt when promoting small dishes.

We'll see how this plays out when television connections become almost invisible when fiber enters most of America's homes instead of a small dish mounted their house. It's an interesting thought. I'm old enough I probably won't see most of it, but it's something to ponder.

Fiber to every home is the pipe dream in this case. Maybe everyone in rural areas who'll NEVER see broadband internet of any kind except for heavily capped satellite internet should all pick up & move to the very few areas that will offer fiber. Fiber &/or 5g wireless to every home is both a fantasy & a joke. It will never happen in my lifetime or the lifetime of my children where I live, & moving is not an option.

if cable companies are granted monopolies by the municipalities they serve, they should be required to serve the ENTIRE municipality. ah well.

Of course, Ergen happens to own Sling TV, too. I doubt he'll be in line at the soup kitchen any time soon. ;)

Very few areas are getting fiber now because the next big play is going to be wireless.

As for bundling, if you really want to save money and remain on AT&T cell just use Cricket. $100 for 5 lines you really can't beat that. They even have an unlimited option.

Home broadband, DSL or Uverse is a joke and always has been for 95% of people. Expensive and not even close to what you can get through most cable co's. If it is your only option so be it but here it is $65 a month (discounted) for up to 6mbs where I have 75mbs for $50 through Comcast. Real competitive with that twisted copper AT&T.

Everything they are doing right now is a stop gap, adding value to share holders where they can and preparing for the future (wireless and IP delivery). Going to be a long time before that all comes into view but it is coming. People will laugh at the old dishes hanging off roofs just like they laugh at the 20 foot monstrosities of the past.

I still receive solicitations often from mail and I ALWAYS SERIOUSLY consider what DirecTV has to offer, and then I get to the "bundle" requirement, and then I am GONE! They LOST me. AT&T can't beat my MVNO with my "Bring My Own Phone" (Moto G4--I bought that straight out, it was so cheap, but could have gotten cheaper) at $27 per month for tons of voice and text and adequate amount of data for my uses--or 5X more data at $33 per month with a different MVNO (I stream video remotely, on occasion, using WiFi). DTV bundled with AT&T Wireless makes no sense for me. Too bad because it is always best to have as many options. So this leaves me with my crappy local cable company as my only alternative to pay-TV service should I want to leave Dish because there offer is superior since I already have internet with them. So, my cable co makes some economic sense, but UUHHHHGGG that my cable co is my only economically competitive option.
