DirecTV questions before signing up again

I'm planning to get a 1 room install of the DirecTV DVR in a spare bedroom with the Total Choice package. I'm a former D* customer before I switched to cable about 3-4 years ago. I've since moved, and switched from cable to DISH, but I've kept the same phone number. Would I be considered a new sub to a local reseller? Are there month-to-month plans, or are all subs required to sign a 1-year contract?
