For those who have the DirecTV Streaming TV services how do they determine which local channels you receive? I'm considering signing up for the Genre News pack since YTTV hasn't yet gotten their act together on their cheaper packages. In my area with YTTV because the zip code is split between two counties when you sign up you are given the option of two different markets, depending on which area of the zip code you live in. You can choose either one, and get the respective locals.

Does DirecTV Streaming handle it the same way, or is it still possible to "move" like in the old days by signing up with a VPN, etc.?

Recently moved from Flint, MI market to Bowling Green, KY market and found out Directv doesn't carry my locals. I really like the Directv streaming service / interface but found it hard to stay with them and have different interfaces to get local channels. I wish there was a way I could get the Nashville, TN locals, which they do carry and I can pickup with my antenna (again, would like them in one neat UI). If anyone has had luck "moving" I wish you would share your story.

Is it just that DIRECTV doesn't carry the locals in your new location or you are just not getting them for some reason or another? I would definitely talk to DIRECTV if you haven't already.

They don't carry Bowling Green's locals on sat, so they don't have a retrans deal in place for them on stream.

They also don't have Grand Junction CO, Cheyenne WY, San Angelo TX, Casper WY, Ottumwa IA, Victoria TX, Helena MT, Presque Isle ME, Alpena MI, North Platte NE, or Glendive MT.

They just don't carry them in my new location. Every other provider does, including Dish who I have now. I'd just rather go back to Directv Stream if there was a possibility of being able to get Nashville's locals. Funny thing is, when you check for locals on the Directv site and you put in my zip code it will ask which county. If I select the county just to the south of me it says they are eligible for the Nashville, TN locals. Ugh.

Dish is better if you want to watch your locals off of your home network!!! you loose your locals and some other channels while your off your home network with direct with Dish you don't ;). unless your hopper goes down :wtf

Dish has every market on satellite as doing so was a condition of them being reprimanded for giving ineligible customers DNS feeds.

Sling doesn't have them though, they just have the NBC, FOX and ABC O&Os.

On DIRECTV satellite you can use an AM21 or a LCC to integrate your antenna's locals into the guide. There isn't an option for streaming customers, but with a HDHomeRun on your network you can install the HDHomeRun app to view locals without switching inputs on a Gemini or other compatible devices.

One note. Glendive really isn't a DMA anymore as KXGN is PBS. Dish subs get Rapid City locals there per Dish site. They had ABC and Fox from Rapid City when Glendive had CBS and NBC over the air. Then NBC got dropped OTA and now CBS is gone.

DIRECTV still has Glendive classified as a separate unserved DMA

The APIs for Peacock/NBC and FOX One also have them unserved with Glendive's DMA code 798

Paramount+/CBS gives them KXMC Minot ND

ABC.com's API is geo IP driven, so I can't check what they do

Then put in the zip next door and see if it works, can't hurt to try .... I would have thought they had Nashville easily.

ABC in markets that don't have one is weird. When they set up our apartment complexes with Directv stream we originally didn't get ABC as there is no ABC in market. ABC on all other providers (Dish, Directv sat and cable) gives folks KSTP Minneapolis (my market is Mankato, MN). A few days later we somehow got KSTP Minneapolis even though when you go on the site it doesn't show a ABC.

I know when I had YTTV or similar the ABC was the ABC feed. Network shows in the timeslot or ABC News/reruns of some network daytime shows in the slots that are not national.

One trick that may help if it is billing address based is to use Privacy.com. It's a site that lets you create "Virtual" debit card numbers that are locked to a particular vendor or merchant with limits on the amount that can be charged to it, etc. I started using them years ago after my card got hacked via some unknown breach. Since that time I've had zero issues.

One added benefit is they allow you to put any name, and any billing address with a card you create and it still work. For example, all of my streaming service cards use a zip code in Delaware where there are no state sales taxes.

It won't work with YTTV though, as they see these as Pre-Paid cards and won't accept them.
