Ion has the exclusive rights to all WNBA games on
Friday nights. On 5/30, Sun @ Fever followed by Sparks @ Aces are the "national" games. The 7:30pm Liberty @ Mystic game is "local", the 10pm Lynx @ Mercury and Dream @ Storm games are "regional"
National = the game airing on the national feed and on most Ion stations
Local = only the DMAs of the teams playing get the game on their local Ion station
Regional = Available in more markets
All local and regional games will be carried by the WNBAION channels.
Some of the Scripps Sports stations also carry the games in markets where Ion is a subchannel. Like tonight Utah 16 and Idaho 6 are carrying Lynx @ Wings while Tucson 58 and MTN Montana are carrying Dream @ Mystics. Next week Vegas 34 is carrying Mystics @ Aces while the rest of them are carrying Mercury @ Storm. Tampa Bay 66 will likely join them in July when WXPX goes independent in preparation for the Lightning and Ion moves to 66.2.
The current WNBA rights deal doesn't have a fairness/balancing clause so the rest of the national rights holders (Prime, CBS/CBSSN, ABC/ESPN/ESPN3, NBATV) selected the Fever whenever possible this year. Only their 7/5 game is currently scheduled to be WTHR only, but they'll have some other games on WTHR, FanDuel Indiana and/or MeTV Indianapolis (WALV-CD 46.1/WTHR 13.3) that will co-exist with the NBATV, Prime, ESPN3 and CBSSN telecasts. The rest of the teams have a mix of games that are only televised by their local stations or RSNs:
Aces - KMCC
Dream - WPCH
Liberty - WWOR
Lynx - FanDuel North
Mercury - AZ Family Sports (only Phoenix's KAZF is carried, the Tucson station is subchannel only, while the Yuma station KAZS is still in test mode)
Mystics - Monumental
Sparks - Spectrum SportsNet
Sky - Marquee
Storm - KUNS
Sun - NBC Sports Boston
Valkyries - KPYX Bay Area and KMAX Sacramento
Wings - KFAA
Also, satellite customers still can't stream WPCH (Gray CW), WWOR (MyNet O&O), KUNS (Sinclair CW), or KPYX/KMAX (CBS independents). They can stream Gray's KAZF, Scripps's KMCC and Tegna's KFAA thanks to the Suns, Golden Knights and Mavericks.
