ABC Miami update: WSVN-D2 will be simulcasted on WDFL-LD 18.1, and Sunbeam struck a deal to have ABC Miami carried on channel 18 by all area providers, including DTV
Thanks, KyL416, no one here knows about this deal yet.... This conversion is still a big mess-- WDFL signal barely goes out 15 miles so this is not a serious OTA play... In fact, it's going to super confuse antenna viewers b/c the full-power strong signal will be on 7.2, not 18.1... but it sounds like they will not promote 7.2.

Yeah, basically once they switched to the merged stream API the app is no longer in sync with the APG data. The old app pretty much matched the APG data in real time, to the point we would get advanced warning about new launches since a few days prior it would show the station with guide data starting at 6am ET the day it would go live.

Only 3 of Weigel's own stations have it in HD, and most of the shows on it are SD upconverts, the little native HD content is limited to ads, bumpers and the Toon in with Me hosted segments that you can also get on the main MeTV channel. The few traditional cable and telco providers that have it are at the mercy of how it is carried OTA in their respective markets.

If you want to watch it in HD, you'll be able to stream it on the app in a few days, along with other channels already streaming in HD that are SD only on satellite like Boomerang, PBS Kids, Nicktoons, TeenNick, LooLoo Kids, Babyfirst, Discovery Life, CNN International, Logo, BET Her, EarthX, FETV, FMC, UP, the C-SPANs, Arirang, Grit, American Crimes, Pursuit, Sportsman, the rest of the Starz Encore channels and others.

DTV satellite is in its final years, once the current fleet runs out of fuel it's most likely over unless there's a drastic change in the marketplace. Most future additions will likely be MPEG4-SD on sat and streaming in HD via the app unless it's something considered must have in HD like sports or a channel tied to a business/commercial deal. It isn't a US only thing either, the same is happening internationally with other sat providers around the world, like earlier this year Sky NZ had to jettison a bunch of channels after Optus D2 reached end of life and much of the non-sports, including all of the kids channels, are SD only. In Europe a lot of channels are SD only on satellite because most of their DTH sat providers are sharing space on 13/19/23, and Sky in the UK has a lot of channels that are only in HD via their streaming platform. Even on cable, for the past few years Xfinity has been limiting most HD additions to their X1 IP platform, while QAM users (including Tivo subscribers) are stuck with those channels in SD or not at all.

Wow, sad. How much longer do those DirecTV satellites have?

Curiosity Stream On Demand is now live on channel 1936

The PUSH channels for 4K Cinema On Demand have been removed.

WXPX/66 Tampa is now independent in preparation for them to become the new home of the Lightning.

It's not reflected by the NOTES, but KVMD/31 LA and WJAL/68 DC dropped MeritTV after Dr. Phil missed payments. Last month he also lost his leased access carriage on Xfinity and Verizon FiOS.

Yes, and now they just filed for bankruptcy and are blaming TBN for not giving them nationwide distribution.

Clearly Dr Phil's company knew nothing about broadcasting if he expected TBN to give them national reach. Their stations use free must carry status which only forces carriage of their primary channel, and in several markets in Texas and Florida they have non-commercial licenses which forbids those stations from carrying ad supported subchannels like Merit street. They also sold off their national network of translators to Luken 15+ years ago, so they only have O&O stations in about 2 dozen markets.
