That's because your Virginia accent is probably not too far off from theirs.![]()
To be fair, their local news reporters didn't have much of an accent, but the accent was very apparent in the local commercials.
People who are still using 612's probably can't afford a Hopper 3!"...the 612 bug that requires an upgrade to a 722...."
"Everybody" knows that bug requires an upgrade to a Hopper 3!

I didn't bother to read the article that ncted linked, but I seem to remember from Journalism class that the accent that news reporters are trained to use is called a Midwestern Drawl, and Ohio (where I am) is a prime example of that accent. There's a reason why so many announcers come from Ohio. Former announcers for The Price Is Right are from Cleveland, and Clear Channel (now iHeart Radio) used to use WBNS in Columbus to do the liners and voiceovers for many of their nationwide stations using local announcers.
That being said, there ARE famous announcers from Oklahoma, like John Doremus: John Doremus - Wikipedia

And don't forget this guy. They found him in Columbus, and I think he calls games for the Cav's now (or has in the past):
Yes, Tulsa call center was always my favorite for Field Support.I've had 2 calls routed to Tulsa in the past 2 days and both reps have been outstanding. During the first call last night, I got a guy who used to work at the Hard Rock Casino and we were talking about shows we've seen in the area. The second lady I got today was just as friendly. Good training and good people, good call center.
Not a fan of Phoenix?Yes, Tulsa call center was always my favorite for Field Support.
I don't think I ever talked to Phoenix. Usually Dayton, Tulsa and several times Beckley, WV. Now, more recently I get El Paso a lotNot a fan of Phoenix?
Now there we may have talked. I never know where I'm routed to if I call BB SupportI used to talk to the broadband techs a lot.
