Dish Bankruptcy - Business as Usual

you think. i think dish will take directv over. dish is in a better spot to take directv over vs the other way around.. charlies is loaded or will be loaded after the sale of spectrum!!!
This is the way I see things going.

But I also keep saying that Charlie will be working to build satellite spectrum for someone else. :)

I think dish won They went broke first . It's called bankruptcy :)

I read that nothing is to change for Dish subscribers, but to make sure, we won't have to get DirectTV equipment will we? It sucks compared to the Hopper 3. Hopper 3 beats youtubetv interface big time also.
Dish network will never merge with Directv. Dish tried buying Directv in early 2000 but George Bush adminstration blocked it. One time Directv had over 24 million customers now maybe 7 to 8 million. Dish had 15 million now less than 5 million. No one ordedring satellite TV.
Only seniors like me keeping it. Both will keep loosing customers. Echostar houston tracker and they made very good receiver back in the 80s and the best DBS receivers including hopper.

I am 59, so would assume, part of that older generation, the streaming boxes are just great for myself and my fiancée ( who was a cord cutter before I met her).

Her parents are in their late 70s, only use a Roku, my step father is 80…same.
Nothing comes close to the Hopper 3 as far as features and user interface go. The streaming services are all garbage compared to it.

The original deal that failed would of merged the two companies with TPG and Directv. In that deal they wanted to use DISH Hoppers and Joeys since they have old receivers and haven't updated them in years. The two satellites that DISH just launched would be used for the combined company and at first everyone would keep the same receivers at first till they decided to make a change and everyone would eventually get a hopper but with DIRECTV name on it.

I don't know if that will happen now. From what I asked yesterday about TPG plans of the Google A.I. for the future they said DIRECTV plans on transitioning all their satellite customers to streaming versions and squeeze out what they can of their existing old satellites and use them for rural customers who can't get broadband. But who knows what they will do if they do indeed sell off DISH and Sling TV to TPG? Either way reorganizing the debt will make DISH /SLING TV more attractive for a sale or merger. I think Charlie wants to be through with satellite TV and move on into other things now with EchoStar.
But he has the 50th anniv. coming in 2030

I am trying YTTV and am slowly getting used to it . With my Apple TV it's pretty easy turn it on and it's up and running unless you had a different app then it's a few simple back clicks . It's a heck of a lot cheaper and the picture quality looks better. Probably gonna cancel dish soon after 25 years or at least keep the cheap package with one hopper. Somethings are hard to quit. Like smoking, drinking and wild women . So glad I never smoked the other two I could never quit :)

I don't know what is motivating Charlie these days, but here's what I found for EchoStar.

EchoStar has pivoted into a Asset-light growth company. By utilizing billions in cash and major equity in Space X, EchoStar's primary focus now is on debt reduction, scaling the Boost Mobile Wireless network using third-party infrastructure , and expanding global satellite connectivity through Hughes Network Systems.

After significant financial restructuring and selling off major wireless spectrum assets to companies like Space X and ATT, EchoStar shifted its corporate strategy to prioritize:

Wireless Services(Boost Mobile): Rather than building and owning capital intensive terrestrial cell towers, Boost Mobile now operates as a hybrid mobile network operator (MNO). It relies on ATT network and infrastructure while maintaining its own cloud-native 5g core. EchoStar Subscribers will also gain access to Space X's next generation Starlink Direct-to-Cell service.

Satellite Broadband & Enterprise: Focus is channeled through the Hughes Business units. Hughes concentrates on cost-effective, data-intensive applications for consumers, aviation, enterprise, and government clients globally.

Capital Stewardship: The massive influx of capital from spectrum sales (including major financial holdings in Space X) is being utilized to retire certain debt obligations and establish a solid, flexible balance sheet under the EchoStar Capital Division.

Correct !
I worked for a federal bankruptcy trustee for a couple years.
He said companies that delay filing run down their assets and get the short end of the stick.
But, those filing early on get to keep their assets to assist in making the company a viable business.

The ones that likely will get hit in this case are those that refused to go along with the previously disclosed haircuts agreed to by the vast majority of the debt holders.

same here and for t.v. shows movies id'e rather watch them on my panny DP-UB9000P1K. the audio and video visuals are mind blowing!!! the UB9000P1K smokes any streaming service out there  ;):biggrin.. love my hopper to..

Dish could market this in their favor. With the cost of streaming services going up and they need to switch from app to app, with the advent of android OS and the hopper equipment, dish has taken away some of that pain by centralizing everything on one device, with one remote where you can still stream watch, live TV and record whatever you want, whenever you want and view all the content from anywhere with an Internet connection

Why do so many bring this up, yet ignore the fact, that Paid Live TV is doing the same?
and they need to switch from app to app
Who cares, when the majority of content on that all in one service is reruns, which are available for free on the Pluto TV type services.

I am glad to switch from app to app for new programming, along with the better video/sound quality.

For example, can you receive CBS shows in 4K on Dish ( or other services)….nope, but you can on Paramount+.

Not many care about the Hopper, if they did, Dish would not be under 5 million subscribers and still losing subs, as reported every quarter.

YTTV has over 12 Million subscribers and still growing, no hopper there.

No body said Paid Live TV wasn't going up in price ... Then again, if your on an Antenna it isn't going up.
