I am presently a Dish customer with four dual-tuner HDDVRs. Each DVR is feed with a single RG-6 coax that uses a separator to feed the dual tuners. If I were to change to DirecTV, is a similar setup possible? Do not want to bring in any more coax runs. Also, with DirecTV HDDVRs, can you run them is dual modes for separate location control of viewed channels?

Here's a link to a site sponsor that has info on the SWM, DirecTV SWM8 - Single Wire Multiswitch - $199 Including Power Inserter - Free Shipping. The SWM8 module shows there is only used in MDU installs, not homes unless you buy one on your own.

If you're a new install there's a good chance that you'd get a SWMLNB which operates the same way but id not expandable past 8 tuners (4 HD DVR's). However CSR's can guarentee anything, what you'd really need to to is have it requested on your order and then get the phone number for the installation company and call and tell them it has to be a SWM or cancel the order.

DirecTV boxes don't have a TV2 feature like Dish DVR's have. The closest you can get is to get an RF modulator and feed the other TV. DirecTV though is working on Multi Room Viewing using ethernet networking (hardwire, wireless or powerline) which would allow for viewing content from a HD DVR on another box. Please check out the CE forums for more details on how MRV works.

if you're going to have 4 hd dvr's then the swm lnb is good enough and will cost less. on ebay you can find them for around $125. super easy installation.
