Dish DVR 512 to What???

Spend $7/Mo. for the protection plan and get your 512 replaced free. After 4 mo. cancel the protection plan. If you are subscribing to the welcome pack a 211 or 612 HD receiver won't do you any good. HD is not included in the Welcome Pack. If you want to upgrade to HD the AT120 is your lowest package but I believe it is $30 more.

Ditto

The 522 and 512 are the same receiver. As mentioned earlier,it's just been crippled to only work in single mode.So again 512/522 same box.

512/522/625 are all very old SD DVRs. Seeing the 512 is a crippled 522 it may have the newest software of the 3. Your cheapest replacement is going to be the protection plan.

Learned a lot yesterday!

I took the cover off the 512 and removed the HDD. The fan I put in 2-years ago died. Didn't have another 60mm fan so I left the cover off and used a 120mm fan.

Turns out the fan only runs for 30 sec at power on, then only as needed based on HDD temp. I ran the 512 for 12-hours recording 2-shows most of the time. With the cover off, the fan never turned on again and the HDD was barely warm to the touch. System reported 113F max. The DVR 512 ran faultlessly all day. :)

To those suggesting the protection plan, read post #9, for the eBay DVR 625, $42.

Thanks all.

locals, premiums and any freeviews are in HD....but he'd have to upgrade his dish (assume its a D500)

My $42 DVR 625 arrived with a dead HDD, packaged with no shock protection. Trying to get my money back.

Now have a working DVR 612 with only a couple of HD channels, none local. Yes I have a D500 dual LNB, apparently I need a western arc triple LNB dish. Will my existing cable setup work?

From my searches, all the local HD channels are on neither 110 or 119 which I'm now receiving. My zip is 81211.

Thanks for the help. :)

Yes, HD locals are on 129. You need a western arc dish 1000.2 to get 110,119 and 129. Your existing cabling should be fine, if its working now with the 612. Just swap out and realign the new dish.

I'll do a record test on one of the few HD channels.

Thank you. :)
