My receiver was on its last leg, so I called the Current Customer number. The person that answered said they would replace all of my receivers and since I was such a good customer give me over 200 channels for $69 as part of a special offer. I said I already had the Everything package and she said this will be better because it is with Direct TV. I explained that I didn't want Direct but the person on the other end would not give up and kept telling me that Direct was better and I should change. I said I did not want Direct and she asked why because it is so much better. I finally had to hang up and call the other number on the website.

I wonder how many customers Dish is losing by posting the competitions number on their website?

Jim

P.S. - when I called Dish, the first thing I told them about was the website. I think I ran into a "it's not my job" attitude because after I told him about the website he simply said "what can I help you with."

You dialed the wrong number.

You dialed 1-800-686-2388. Which is a Direct reseller.

Dish is 1-888-686-2388.

You must have been at the wrong web site. Some DIRECTV retailers have web sites close to the dishnetwork.com name to catch people that type in the wrong name. Or dialed the 800 vs 888 prefix.

You are right, I just looked at the number dialed on my phone and it was "800". Sorry for the confusion.

Good thing it was only a directTV # you dialed by accident. Imagine your surprise if what you thought was a dish CSR w/ a sultry voice was trying to convince you to enter your CC# to talk to her for $3.99/min ;)

Way off topic story that you reminded me of...I used to work for a store that was a UPS shipping point. A lady came in and complained that one of our employees gave her a porn chat number. The UPS number was 1-800-PICK-UPS. The employee accidentally switched the two words (800-UPS-PICK), which wound up being one of those numbers you refer to.

after 12 years i canceled my 800 number, it got very few legit calls, but overflowth with calls from the gulf coast, when the next gambling cruise? at all hours and many drunk. 3am was a popular time:( the affinity number was close to my number

my 800 number got reassigned to a porn site:( the school secretary who told me thought it funny, since that publics school calendar went out with a typo, the school info line sent callers to a porn site......
