DISH Has Made it Impossible to be a VIP211k Owner

No need to rant, rave, and holler, just hang up and call a different CSR. I've installed owned boxes in the past year or so with no problem. Right now the Hopper 3 is under $300 on Amazon. And ignore those negative reviews. For some reason they resurrected a bunch of negative reviews from 2017 and posted them up as if they were still relevant (They aren't). Besides, if you get a bad one just return it through Amazon. This isn't rocket science.
I am not always cranky LOL. but something that should take one phone call took two months. Sometimes you have to piss in someone's cheerios and move mountains  . i don't belive the reviews on amazon i think half of them are made up by bots!!! we have never had any issues with amazon taking back stuff or crediting our account for things we never got!!!;)

our LNB goes into a solo hub with two splitters on the end for 6 t.v.'s.. dishdude forgot to mention good luck on getting the new LNB as only installers have it now and it's only for new installs and the DISH 500 dish reflector. I will also agree with dishdude buying don't make sense a 6 room system can run at least $ 100.00 easily. and that's sourcing boxes from the most rock bottom places and getting the free install if your lucky!!! it was cheaper for us just to use CC rewards than to pay the lease fees for most it don't make sense to buy... View attachment 187617we don't have the node we have the solo hybrid hub with two splitters at the end feeding 6 rooms..View attachment 187618
It's too bad that they didn't just start trying to explain it to me. I would have probably cried uncle right then and there, lol.

I actually do have an old D500 with legacy LNBs on it. Haven't used it in years since I switched to a western arc 3 LNB DPP dish. It's been so long since I set it up, I don't even remember the name of it (1000.something?).

In any event, we're pretty boring people. I've only ever had Dish Net in the main room. Although, ever since we added a network attached dvr (Tablo), I've come to appreciate the ability to watch it in any room.

The switch you pictured looks like a mystery that I have no desire to solve. There was a day when I would've loved to figure it out and understand it. But life has big demands on my time these days. In fact, with all I've got on my plate, I've already spent too much time whining about this.

There was a day when I could've explained what and how every switch worked. But not anymore. The switch in your picture has passed me by, lol.

Not in my case. My receiver hasn't been connected to the outside world. I have never connected it to the internet. I just never thought Dish Home (channel 100) was worth the effort... and obviously, the 211k doesn't do the streaming thing. So there was really never any point to connect it to the internet.
The registration numbers you gave Dish when you activated your equipment identify the receiver model.

The receiver model wasn't the information in question... what dish is hooked to it was.

Just FYI, I originally had a Wally installed by Dish Network several years ago when I set up a my new account. They did install a Hybrid LNB for the Wally. After my 2 year price lock expired, I bought a Wally and installed it myself, swapping out the leased Wally with a purchased one. I called Dish to activate it, no problems. They even sent me a pre-paid box to return their leased Wally.

Last summer, I bought a Hopper 3 and two Joey 3s and a Solo Hub from Solid Signal. I swapped out my Wally for the Hopper 3, installed both Joeys using the Solo Hub, all using my existing Hybrid LNB. I then simply called Dish to activate all of them. There were no questions asked, they simply activated all of them and all of them work perfect. They all show up as owned in my account and I pay the owned price per unit, not the leased price. There was never a 2 year contract made, nor did a Tech ever come to my house. When I taked to the CSR to activate everything, she even joked that I must know what I am doing if I installed the Hopper 3 and Joeys myself.

I do think the Hopper 3 requires a Hybrid LNB. Since I already had that, it made it simple to install.

Maybe the answer is not call dish so much and ask questions but to just simply do it!

Why would need the newest LNBF? Lotsa hopper users must be on older ones like the DPP triple. If you've self-installed before, you can again, especially if dish is already in place. Just buy the hopper and any kind of add-on 'node' you might need (per advice here), and call in activation. Do NOT ask them to "check" and see if the rx is clear to use. They don't like q's like that. It will be incumbent upon your seller to know the rx's history and to guarantee to you it's usable.

Isn't it wonderful that they're offering to bring you equipment and install it? Could have used that back in the day, when they wouldn't refer us and instead mailed the cx a "free self-installation kit" along with the rx & dish. Wonder what they'd say if you asked them for a free self-installation kit today....

We just bought everything and called dish and even got the free install. they included everything!!! they even brought out a hopper with sling and some joey. i just told the guy i didn't want that crap and i told em i have my own hopper 3.. i didn't know why he brought it out :biggrin.. no prob there the tech just called in and modified the work order to put in our hopper 3 and our owned joeys;). i guess they can't just sell a dish by itself. i might even consider paying dish for a install or to have them change things out. if you only need one t.v. you might not even need the hub

I'm pretty sure they haven't sent self-installation kits in quite some time. Just I'd throw them that one just to mess with them. They weren't such a scrupulous outfit in past years.

They have to bring out all possible gear they might need including rx's because yours might not be usable or you might decide on add'l viewing.

I am almost willing to bet it's also so you can't hook your neighbors up and split the bill :biggrin .I remember people trenching holes back in the day with direct and splitting the bill!!!

Got rid of my 211K's a couple years ago and replaced them with Wallys when 211K EOL became apparent. I started monitoring Amazon and ended up buying Wallys earlier this year during one of those "secret sales" that pop up at the end of the month for some vendors when they need cash flow or have to hit sales numbers. Paid $25, yes twenty five bucks each for factory packed refurbs. Had zero problems installing them myself and eliminated the box fee. Right now they are priced at $42.99 on Amazon, heckuva price. Meanwhile the DVR's are working just fine. And with the add-on OTA dongle your have 4 tuners. No different than computers or cellphones, if you want to stay up with technology you have to upgrade every now and then or you're left holding a brick.

Oh, yeah, one more thing, why wouldn't you want a box that connects to the Internet? Dish is offering dozens of free streaming channels plus during rain fade it switches to streaming many/most(?) channels as a backup, all automatically. By not upgrading you're only short changing yourself.
plus you can pay your bill and change your package from bed :biggrin.. no need to even deal with the phone people!!!

If that option was available, someone needs to tell the CSRs.

I offered to buy a Hopper and install it... they all said no. I don't know how many times I can say that before someone addresses that fact.
when we told em we own all of our boxes. they asked where we got em and for how much!!!
