Dish HD from Mpeg2 to Mpeg4 change over

If I wasn't reading online I'm not sure I would even be aware of the mpeg4 change. I have an 811 and haven't been sent any upgrade offers or threats or anything.

"few people have them on pre-vip hardware" - how do you know ? Are you count 6000s, 811s, 921s and 942s ? Seems to me just shoot in the dark :p.

Just a guess, when someone ordered HD in the past they were usually given a dish 500. So, how many people have taken the effort to add 61.5 or 129 at their own expense and subscribe to a $5 voom pack that dish didn't advertise? Also, when dish previews a new HD channel they mirror it on 110 in mpeg2.

edit: come to think of it, it was a while before voom on 129 became an option.

HGTV HD is a 720p channel. They can send this "as is" ie just converting from MPEG-2 to MPEG-4 without changing over to HD-Lite without a dramatic PQ loss.

Cheers,

As I recall, HGTV-HD is a 1080i channel. I've looked through the press releases and can't find where they actually stated their resolution.
