Dish Install on exhaust pipe

Just wanted to say thanks guys. Site Supervisor came out today and said he'd be out this week to do my Eastern Arc install. The only downfall is the fact that my locals are not on the EA as of yet. I'll have to use the OTA module to get them... no biggie. If I need to DVR I can set the recorders or I can use HULU.

buh bye time warner

Did he imply to you that Dayton's locals were going to be on EA in the future ? If so, it may be a while before that happens. Dish just added Dayton's HD locals a few months ago (around spring ?) and put them on 129', along with the SD locals. Columbus locals are also on 129'. There doesn't seem to be any "logic" in what ends up on EA. Cincinnati's locals are on EA though.... Go figure.

He made it sound like they would eventually move to the EA.

He did say that some people do manage to get loyalty to open up other networks via the satelite (ie Cinci)

Just as long as I get good OTA and I can pull them into the DVR I'm ok with it.
especially since if I drop locals I'll be paying more due to some DVR advantage package I'm in.

Only a few very large metropolitan areas have their HD locals mirrored on both 129 and 61.5, I don't believe Dayton qualifies.

If dish does move them from 129 to EA they might mirror them for a short time while they change subscribers dishes to fit the new alignment.

Dish has two new satellites in Western Arc that have a lot of spot beam capability and is using them to supply HD locals on spots all over the place. If in the next 2 years or so the plans for 2 new sats on EA come to fruitition, that may relieve the shortage of spots from 61.5, 72 and 77 orbitals and let dish supply locals from more logical satellite locations.

However cincinnati locals are located on a 77W CONUS Beam. If you're not worried about news, read some threads about "moving"

I think he's full of it.... Dayton's SD locals were on 105' and recently moved to 129'. Then when the HD locals came available, they also went to 129'. If Dish wanted them on EA, it would have made a lot more sense to put the HDs on EA and slowly move existing customers there too.

Ummmm, no.... Dish can't "legally" provide locals to a customer other than the ones they qualify for. By "legally", I mean contractual agreements between them and the stations or networks.

Friend of mine just had his installed this weekend and he's not all that far from me (Springboro) and they gave him Cinci... (and he actually wanted Dayton)

just as long as I can pull them in to the DVR with an OTA I could care one way or the other... although I'd prefer to have stations with the channel guide

Yes, "move" to Cincinnati, and then you'll get Cincinnati by Sat, and Dayton by OTA.

either way though, all OTA locals info is now on both arcs. I received OTA info for the Harrisburg locals when I installed my Eastern Arc (prior to Harrisburg being put on 77), so you'll get guide info for the OTA locals you pick up.

That may be correct.... Depending on *exactly* where he is, he can be in the Cincinnati DMA.

Go to this page, https://customersupport.dishnetwork.com/customernetqual/prepAddress.do, and input your exact street address. Do the same for his. The local market that is listed is the one you'll get.

In the case of your friend, he can get Cincy locals yet the house across the street may get Dayton locals.

Did they change that ? If so, he has nothing to worry about. At one time, OTA local guide data was being sent on the same satellite as the regular locals came from.

I have also heard this same thing that folks on EA were getting OTA info for locals not on EA. I can not verify this though as I haven't tried.

That would totally make my day if that's true
