Dish & TBS HD

Dish sure has a strange way of informing or rather not informing their costumers.
I just found this:

EchoStar Adds TBS HD
But the satcaster still says it can't comment.

Washington, D.C. (October 5, 2007) -- EchoStar's Dish Network today added TBS HD to its high-def lineup on channel 139.

But EchoStar said tonight it can't comment on whether the channel has been added.

"We aren't making any announcements at this time (regarding TBS HD)," said EchoStar spokeswoman Francie Bauer.

EchoStar added the channel today shortly before game two of the New York Yankees-Cleveland Indians playoff series.

TBS HD has the rights to broadcast first and second round action in baseball's annual elimination tournament, which began this week.

EchoStar has been under fire this week for not offering the high-def TBS. DIRECTV and several cable operators had already added the channel

The only way thatDISH spokesman comment makes sense to em is if the deal has not been consummated and DISH is simply unwilling to say much as the channel could be yanked after some period of time. But that is speculation on my part.

I think it's a good guess. I don't think this channel is here to stay or they haven't consumated teh contract.

I see it staying and they have already announced that it will become available full time at its regular slot in the 9000 range and the down map slot at 139 on 10/10/07. This was already put out by Scott G. People have already reported that DISH has called them by computer to inform them of the TBS addition. Come 10/10/07 we will see a full press statement from DISH announcing the addition formally.

I think the decision to put it up so fast on a pay per view slot was due to demand by DISH customers who wanted the base ball playoffs now, and not on 10/10/07. THe biggest hurdle to adding TBS was probably over the $$ figure that TBS wanted to add them, with the play offs being their leverage part.

How do you call somebody by computer? Is that like email or instant messaging? Or are you referring to the automated system calling out Dish customers? I haven't received such a call yet.

Apparently they madea an official announcement this morning. Odd how it was all handled but I am glad tosee the station----though I seldom watch it these days.

I got this from E*. I guess it is official now.

Maybe I have been under a rock, but I don't watch TBS and I have never heard of these original comedies. The last I heard of an original comedy on TBS was during my childhood when they puked out "Still the Beaver" for a short run. TBS hasn't been a channel I have even scoped out in the guide, much less watched, in well over a decade. As a kid I watched the Flintstones and Brady Bunch, among other after school kiddie shows, but this channel certainly doesn't do anything to market their modern day shows outside their own channel. Until this TBS HD Baseball fiasco with Dish, I haven't even given a thought to TBS in years. On the flipside, channels like VH1 and A&E tend to draw me back from time to time because I hear about shows they air in other places, whether it be on other channels, print ads, or other media. TBS is nothing as far as I am concerned.

"Just in time"?

Dish comes up a day late (actually 5 days late) and a dollar short and still claims "a home run for baseball fans."

The truth is they should be totally embarassed that the self proclaimed leading HD provider was the only major provider not providing the first 5 days of tie-break and playoff games in HD. Don't get me wrong -- I am very happy that we now have TBS HD -- I just don't think it is appropriate to claim "a home run for baseball fans" when they have merely caught up with all the providers they claimed to be ahead of.

I don't know which is more embarassing -- the leader in HD providers being late in providing the playoffs in HD or blowing their own horn about catching up with everyone else "just in time."

They just don't get it.

Worse is, Scott intimated the only reason they released TBS-HD on Friday was because of Bob's screen capture. Still looking for more information on that. Otherwise they were planning to wait until Wednesday to let it loose.

The sports leader? Hardly. DTV has put it's stake in the ground with sports. They've got all the major sports packages, and more RSN's. I can't stand marketing people because they believe in their doublespeak.

Wang did not choke.. he aint as good as some people think. He just pitched real bad.

He was great in teh regular season. Won somehting like 19 games even though he missed the first 6 weeks due to an injury....

The problem was that Steingrabber or Cashman told Torre to start him on three days rest.

I heard that only 30% of pitchers in the playoffs who pitch on three days rest get a win for the team. Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it....

This Mets fan fave joke of the day....

Q. What's the difference between the Mets' collapse and the Yankees' collapse?

A. Eight Days
