Paid the $299 to get a 622 and have already had it installed. Current bill shows $199 for DP44 (which also received a $199 credit) and most importantly a $99.95 charge for Dish 500. I called and they wouldn't remove the Dish 500 charge. Reading the forum, not sure if should push the issue since I didn't have to pay for the DP44.

What the installer did was setup a Dish 1000 and left my Dish 500. He installed a DB44.

Connected to the DP44 were 2 cables from the Dish 1000 . One for the new 622 and one for the 721 that sit next to each other. Each cable had a splitter put on it at the receiver end so that each tuner had an input. This was done for both the 622 and the 721.

Also he connected a cable from the Dish 1000 to the DP44 for a 510 that is sitting in the master bedroom - I wanted this since the TV in the bedroom is HD and I wanted it ready to go for when I add a HD receiver.

I have 2 other rooms with a receiver and those were left on the existing switch (I checked system info on a 510 and it says device is SW21).

I am in San Jose, CA 95124 and don't know what I really needed. I had wondered about removing the Dish 500 but unsure about the inputs and outputs for the DB44 would allow all my 5 receivers (7 tuners) . I'm also getting another 622 to replace a 510 so that would make 5 receivers and 8 tuners. Total 4 HD tuners and the other 4 on SD.

P.S. One tuner is phantom, the wires outside are connected to the room, but the receiver has moved between 2 rooms and I will also want to add a new SD tuner in the future to one of those rooms so the above paragraph is worded taking this all into account.

For us in the Bay Area we need 119, 110 and 129 so the D1000 is fine. I'm a little confused about your explanation but if I understand correctly this is what you have.

From the D1000 ==> 3 cable runs to ==> DPP44 ==> Feeding a 622, a 721 and a 510 receivers.

Those 3 cable runs are for each satellite the D1000 sees not for the receivers. The receivers are then connected to the switch.

From the D500 you're feeding two more receivers using two SW21s, correct? One 510 and the second one unknown.

He should've added a second DP switch (DP34) and remove the D500 and SW21s. If you want to add more receivers, get a DP34 and cascade it off the DPP44 to feed those two receivers off the D500. You can feed the 622 off the 4th port in the DPP44.

Regarding the charges, I would tell them that a D1000 was installed not a D500 and it should've been included in the free installation for the 622.

Do I understand correctly, for my location there are only 3 satellites needed to get my coverage of stations (would this also include when the yadd the local HDs?). The Dish 1000 can look at 3 satellites at once (or can it look at 4?) and that is why there are 3 cables (not because of the receivers themselves).

There is no real reason to have the Dish 500 if I have 2 622s, 1 721, and 2 more 1 tuner receivers?

I understand you are telling me that I can remove the Dish 500 and the old switches, plug a DP34 into the DP44 and end up with 622, 622, 721 connected to DP44 and 510 and 5th receiver connected to DP34 - is my understanding correct?

thanks.

Yes, that includes the HD locals that are not there yet but should be coming soon for us.

I think you got it. Just remember that the dual tuners need to connect to the DPP44 so you can use the DP Separator, you can't use it with the DP34. So you should connect the 2 622s and the 721 to the DPP44 and one more receiver. The other receivers will connect to the DP34.
