Good. Maybe the dang hackers will finally give up.

And maybe they'll flood eBay with a bunch of good, used fta receivers. I'd like to pick up a cheap Pansat 9200 or Coolsat HD (for LEGITIMATE free-to-air)!

I believe the card is sent to the billing address.

A note to movers, a number of cities which people seem to like to move to are soon going to move themselves... to spotbeams.

For those saying... My receiver does not have a Smartcard... what does this mean for me? You like everyone else will get new Smartcards in the mail. While your receiver may not have a card in its slot there is one built on to the main board. When you put this card in the slot and activate it, the built in card will be deactivated.

And now you know!

Would you recommend activating all the spare receivers we have in the closet, at least during this card swap?

I am not to smart on all this, what is the card swap for? Is it just so Dish will have better security against pirates or is there some plus for us subscribers

This is the only concern I have. They'll do this card swap, and all the receivers we ave in the warehouse which have built in smart cards won't activate when we install them, as they were in the warehouse before the swap. I hope they thought about this.

Are you talking SD or HD?

The only SD nets on CONUS now are NY, Denver & Chicago - what other cities are still on CONUS?
But yea - if they DO move these nets, it's going to cause some of us heartburn - especially Denver! ;)

(Obviously, Atlanta & SF big 4 aren't moving, since they are specifically for distant net subs from NPS ;) )

I would expect the card swap to take a couple of months to complete.

I would also hope that if a warehouse is using FIFO (First In First Out) inventory practices that there would be little to no stock that uses older cards in the warehouse. I have not seen a receiver with a old card installed in a home for many months.

Probably. It's DNS, so I figure they will take care of it one way or another.

How long did the last card swap take to complete? I remember waiting months to get a card for my 508 and was to the point of getting warning screens saying X channel will not be available after X date.

If I'm getting all of the other NYC channels on spot beam, I assume I'll still get NYC HD after the move tomorrow, is this correct?
Thanks, Dan

They been through this before, they do (sort of) know what they are doing.

We are not going to turn this into a thread on how long the new security will work for, thats not what we are about. In fact I am proud of the fact that we here at SatelliteGuys work with Dish to help nail pirates. ;)
