DISH Network CENSORING Free Preview

Boba, you are correct about the free 3 months of Starz. I just completed the Dish Builder prompt at Dish's website and it had Starz checked at the end. All of this doesn't make sense to me because all of the movie channels basically show the same stuff except HBO has some unique programming. If Dish would just announce they have a free preview weekend coming up then people could decide whether or not those channels are viewable.

Adding the free previews would negate the reason most people have the family pack. If HBO Family channel was available seperately, I would think they would make this available to Family Pack supscribers and the subscribers would accept that, as long as the exception was made to exclude the non G rated stuff.

But right now, with all HBO and Cinemax stuff avaiable, most Family Pack users would find exception to that. Those who have the FP just for the cost, however, would not see the reason for no previews.

Its obvious SP is mad at Dish Network and regardless of what Dish would have done in this situation, SP would have had a problem with it.

Situation #1: Dish gives everyone including the Family Pack the free HBO preview.
SP's response: I can't believe that Dish would show all this highly offensive material in the family pack.

Situation #2: Dish doesn't include the preview, and we all know that SP is complaining that he doesn't get the preview.

Bottom line, Dish can't win
obviously im not mad cause only dogs get mad you didnt know this jerseyguy, im livid:)

If the preview were blocked due to concern over content for the family plan, then why the offer of Starz to new subscribers?

It would appear that dish has set a price point below which you do not get the "free" preview. It must be a new trend as a friend of mine no longer subscribes but keeps his setup for NASA. He told me this morning that he isn't getting the preview either, but had in the past when available.

I guess this is marketing's new definition of "Free." I got some coupons for a "Free" premium roast coffee from a fast food chain last week. Everywhere in big type was "FREE". Then in 6 pt type mixed in with the typical disclaimers and expiration date was, "Minimum purchase posted on menu board...not valid with dollar menu items."

It would seem that Dish has a similar philosophy.

Actually HBO and Skinamax have alto more adult oriented programming. You run the risk of children seeing more nudity and sexual content with those channels than you do with Starz.
tonight for example:THE WITCHES OF BREASTWICK, HOTEL EROTICA CABO 36: SUMMER LOVERS, EMMANUELLE IN SPACE: A WORLD OF DESIRE, 8 1/2 WOMEN,
G-STRING DIVAS 06: DIVAS IN PARADISE, BIKINI CAVEGIRL, and HOT! HOT! HOT! THE BEST OF TAXICAB CONFESSION 3: AMERICA UNDERCOVER

as comparedto Starz:The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou, Sin City, Peter Pan, The King Of New York, National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon 1, The Butterfly Effect

YOu can block those channels from the kids, if you want to. However, those only XX and not XXX.

I believe all DTV viewers can watch this preview, no matter what program they has.

Well, I already "has" HBO so I guess I should get the weekend payment taken off my bill since it is a "Free Preview Weekend". I mean if those of you (who subscribe to 60 or higher anyway) who don't have it get to see it for free and I have to pay for it, that's not fair. I should get whatever I pay for HBO and subtract the five days that it is in free preview and then only have to pay that on my bill!

so if free preview not available to all Dish should add a disclamer

well, maybe next time they will just for you.

"We are offering a free preview for everyone except those in Dish Family and especially Stone!"

No Preveiw here:( Vip211 w/Dish HD ONLY Pkg (no locals/no sd).

I've got a question for you Hammer....

What are your fees? I have the 622 with the Old HD Pack + Voom, and I get charged the "access fee" because I don't have qualified SD programming, and I get charged the "HD Enabling Fee" because I don't subscribe to qualified SD/HD programmiing.

I'm rather sure that you still have to pay for the "access fee", but I am curious if you still have to pay the "HD Enabling fee". Can you enlighten us on what you have to pay?

Family Pack and HBO Subscriber

OK , ponder this. I have the family pack and I subscribe to HBO. Will I get the Showtime free preview at the end of the month ? I subscribe to the Family Pack not because I have kids in the house (I don't) but because I was tired of paying for trash programing I never watched.

Free preview

If you are subing to the Family pac then dish is protecting you from all that unsuitable programming that HBO & Cinemax has. They are protecting you from yourself!:D

If you have the family package then it would be obvious that you would not get a free preview of hbo and cinemax ( real sex, taxi cab confessions, soft core porn, boxing, ect ect ect ) wich is not a family oriented movie service regadless of the fact that hbo has one channel called family. You tell them you want family oriented programming and they provide it yet when something that isnt family oriented comes along as a free preview and you dont understand why your getting it.

I remember the launch of HBO Family. After all of the balloon graphics and family hoopla their very first movie led off with "The following movie is rated PG, Parental Guidance is suggested."

I'm still disappointed that the "Free" preview wasn't made available to everyone, but after browsing the listings it doesn't look like I'm missing much. When I had HBO Bill Mahrer was about the only program I watched regularly.

From my understanding the "HD Enabling fee" is charged anyone with one of the new Mpeg4 HD receiver's and do not sub to one of the new HD medal packs. Not sure but I think the new $29.99/mo HD standalone qualifies and I think but not sure that the $6/mo access fee is waved with this package as well so it may pay you to go with the new HD standalone package.
