DISH Network to launch new Regional Weather Channels

I got the following info overnight... No word on when or if these new refional weather channels will be coming to other cities as well...

Dish Network & The Weather Channel will launch a new regional weather
channel offering into each the following local markets:

Salt Lake City, Tucson (Sierra Vista), Phoenix (Prescott) and Oklahoma City.

These new channels will provide customers with weather updates specific to
their area.

Oh heck yeah, just when you thought that the whole "local weather" thing was dead and buried suddenly there's some hope that we'll all see better local weather coverage for our area.

Too bad I don't live in one of those cities... Looking forward to hopefully seeing some screens from fellow users that do soon...

Good news... though I've got to say that weather forecasts in Phoenix should be really easy for them to provide. I've lived in AZ for over 30 years now and can pretty well predict the summertime weather in Phoenix: Today - HOT!, Tomorrow - HOT!, next week - HOT!, next month - HOT!

Surely they can make better use of their bandwidth than filling it with regional weather. Doesn't everyone have a computer or smart phone these days? I literally cannot remember the last time I watched a weather forecast or turned to the weather channel on TV. It has been years.

Ditto on the waste of bandwidth. Please don't put one of these in the Tulsa market! Our weathermen go crazy now when dark clouds hit the panhandle and start moving towards OKC let alone when something is actually close to NE Oklahoma. OKC is just as bad. The networks should really pre-empt sweeps weeks in Oklahoma to June because May is tornado season in Oklahoma and we rarely ever get to watch season finales in their entirety, if at all.

Perhaps the 8PSK compression is helping add more space to some of these markets? I would love to have it in my area as well along with many others around here. I do get my weather off of the internet most of the time though but it is nice to have it on the bigscreen.
