IMPORTANT NOTICE
DISH Network Will No Longer Carry Alter Globe Greek-Language Channel
Effective September 1, 2007
\
August 30, 2007
Dear DISH Network Retailer,
Effective September 1, 2007, the Alter Globe Greek-Language channel will no longer be carried on DISH Network. Unreasonable financial demands were made that would have caused a price increase to DISH Network customers.
DISH Network is committed to providing customers in the U.S. with top-quality Greek-Language television programming directly from Greece at low prices. Subject to applicable terms and conditions, qualifying customers may continue to receive a variety of Greek-Language programming from our current channel lineup, including top-quality sports, music, talk shows, serials and news programs. In addition, Greek-Language channels currently on DISH Network carry several exclusive soccer broadcasts.
Alter Globe was available a la carte and also packaged with Antenna a la carte, ERT World a la carte, the Greek Radio package (grandfathered customers only), and the Antenna Package.
Beginning August 27, 2007, we will inform customers subscribing to Alter Globe of the changes to the Greek-Language programming packages (please see below) through phone calls and letters.

Free DVD – To thank our Alter Globe subscribers for their support, qualifying former Alter Globe subscribers who continue to subscribe to qualifying Greek-Language channels on DISH Network (as described in the table above) may be eligible to receive a free DVD, “To Piratiko”. This DVD includes games from the Euro 2004 soccer tournament and features highlights of the historic Greek victory as well as interviews with players, coaches and fans. We presently anticipate that eligible customers will receive their free DVD during the month of September 2007. Free DVD offer is subject to applicable terms and conditions.
Setanta Sports – Free Preview – In addition, we want to remind our Alter Globe subscribers that a free preview of Setanta Sports, the leading distributor of European Soccer and International Rugby, will be available in the Preview Showroom through September 5, 2007 on channel 284, and on channel 406 through September 9, 2007.

Wow. If they lose ERT, they might as well give up on the Greek programming. ANT pretty much sucks. ANT Gold is just old sucky ANT shows, and BLUE is just the same 10 sucky, poppy R-rated music videos shown over and over. If they get rid of ERT, I'm cancelling and going to DirecTV.

The international services are evidently terribly expensive.
I pay $125/month for AT250 plus locals, no premium channels, DVR, 4 TVs, with the Chinese Super Pack plus Chinese Variety Pack.
It's no wonder they can afford to put up new satellites, change out antenna equipment, and shuffle internationals around all the time.
At least they're resisting extortion. Bribery and extortion are routine business practices for everyone EXCEPT the United States.
I would like movies and HD but that will probably put me near $180/month for just a television service.
