hi
I used to use old dish satellite box and was able to play my mac book computer for films and you tubes on my Samsung TV

I always had one wire with the "HDM1 in" and and one wire for sound from the back of the tv connecting to the mac and always worked before

Now the only thing that has changed is that we have the high definition satellite box I can't find a way to get my mac to work with the tv
Firstly is it a certain channel on the tv - it used to be channel 3 - I can't find that either - I was told that it was channel 63 for this but it skips 63
- I have gone through a lot of channels with no luck so far

other than that any ideas what to do please
I am grateful for your help:)
thank you

The channel is something you set in the menus.

Without knowing which receiver (by model number) we're talking about, I can't offer directions (or a link thereto).

You should be able to run RCA cabling direct to the Mac without fiddling with a tuner card. In the end, the Mac makes for a completely marginal DVR.

satellite box model VIP222K

I might try to turn it off completely - perhaps that might work

thank you for your help - it is appreciated

No worries I have now solved the problem
I will write another thread as I can't get the video to work as it did before
thank you for your help again

This forum isn't for satellite discussion. This thread should be in the Dish Network forum since it is a Dish related question. Can a mod please move it?

VCR not working with new HDTV satellite

I could work the VCR well before I got HDTV satellite receiver with Dish

I have the Toshiba VCR wire into back of Samsung TV as before but I cannot get a picture whilst playing a video

I believe it was channel 3 that would bring the picture up but now that does not work nor channel 63 which I was told was the number

(I have checked the toshiba code is correct with the samsung and that worked with the test)

I am not sure what I am doing wrong

thank you for your help:):):)

Is this on TV1 or TV2? If it is on TV1 and you absolutely need to use the VCR you could just use the composite outputs on the Dish receiver. Also, you could just upgrade to a DVR which is much easier to use and once you get one you can't live without it.

I just have some wonderful old videos I enjoy
I have been able to figure out that if I press TV and then input I can get HDM1 - HDM2 - etc
I have pressed TV and got the channel numbers and tried them all but that didn't work either for the VCR picture
but I don't know how to get TV1 or TV2
what do I need to press for this
thanks

Well if you just need to watch and not record to the VCR just plug yellow, white, and red composite cables from those outputs on the VCR into the composite input on the TV.

You need to read the manual about the connection and setup of TV2. Your thoughts are somewhat scattered and it may help if you're able to explain what you're looking for in terms that are used in the manual.

Manuals

You also need to know if the VCR is set to tune AIR or CATV. The DISH receivers can put out both.

Be sure to work on one issue at a time. We can't keep up if you're jumping from TV1 to TV2 and otherwise all over your home in the same post.

For the VCR I have followed instructions in booklet.
I have placed in the wires in the right place in back of TV - it all worked perfectly before I got high definition satellite box.
I am only using one Samsung TV
So how do you get channel 63 or 73 to function? When you press 63 and it jumps to 71 or 73 jumps to 72
thanks

good grief charlie brown.

  1. coaxial cable from Dish Receiver "Home Distribution" port goes to the VCR Coax *IN* port. See the back of your 222k
    222k.jpg

    .
  2. vcr is set to the channel listed in the menu of the 222k for Modulator Setup ... As this picture shows Menu 6 - 1 - 5
    install_mod.jpg
Notice the ability to send *out* via the coax / home distribution port, both TV1/Tuner1 and TV2/Tuner2 video signals. here is where you set what "channels" will be used to send the video signal out the coax to your VCR, please ALSO take note that you can use "Air" or "Cable" signalling. use the same (air or cable) for *both* channels that you output.

    .
  3. For the VCR to record TV signals from the Dish receiver, the VCR will need to tune to the "TV/Air" or "Cable" channel, as you set in that menu screen.

    .
  4. The coax cable *out* from your VCR goes to the Coax/TV *IN* on your TV.

Now ... here's where it gets confusing .. ON THE TV ... TV channel 3 or 4 will get you what the VCR is sending. BUT the VCR can be in "TV" or "VCR" mode in VCR mode it sends on channel 3 or 4 ... in TV mode it will usually PASS THROUGH the TV output from the Dish 222k.

If you are not using the Coaxial cables, then it would be following the Composite (Red/White/Yellow) "Out" from the Dish Receiver, to the IN of the VCR, from the OUT of the VCR to the IN of the tv.

As to your MAC / HDMI -- No clue. You'll need to look at the TV and see what ports are in use. Most likely the dish installer plugged the Dish receiver into HDMI1 unless you stopped them.

make a list of what is plugged in where ... tape a copy of it to the back of the TV or back of a door of your TV Stand ... this will help you in the future.

to isaacmorse - I am just trying to play old videos
and thank you for trying to help me
to TG2 thank you also
I will get back to you if I still can't get it to work
I appreciate all your time and efforts
big thanks

If all you want to do is play old videos on your VCR, simply leave the Dish receiver out of the equation. Run a red, white, yellow cable from the VCR to your one of your TV inputs. Now, when you want to watch an old video from the VCR, change your input on your TV remote to that input and there you go. When you are ready to watch some satellite TV just change the input on your TV remote back to the satellite input and there you go. It really isn't complicated.
