At least it won't cost you anything to use it.

Assuming you mean, you can not turn it OFF unless you unplug it....
- Maybe the logic is screwed up. Unplug it for a few minutes, then plug it back in and see if it resets.
- Maybe the ON button on the remote is stuck.
- Maybe the (internal) switch is bad and needs replacing.

Mine stopped working today

Anyone know how to access the service menu on a DishDVR 510?

My 942 did a similar fake death. Last week, it smelled bad and made a whirling sound, but would not come to life. I was getting ready for my 622 install schedule for the next day. I plugged it into an outlet without the signal cables and it came to life again. I reinstalled everything and it still works. I am not sure what happened. Maybe a power surge. Who knows for sure.
