Hello everyone,
I recently bought a 721 from ebay. After spending $200 on upgrading to dish pro plus and new cable because my old cable could not handle 2 tuners on one feed, I finally am up and running. However changing channels is very slow. Sometimes it takes up to 10 seconds to change channels. It does not matter if I am recording 2 shows at once or no shows at all. there is a very big lag when changing channels. Is this normal for this unit? Is there a buffer setting or something like that?

It should only take 4-6 seconds.

If it is taking longer... it has old software or the smart card is having problems. It could be an lnb problem. If you just got it from someone, I would suggest wiping the software out and re-installing it.

To get your 721 back to almost the way it was when you got it...

1. Menu->6 System Setup->5 Diagnostics
2. Info->Right->Left to get to Debug Status Screen

From Debug Status Screen :

Delete all Persistent Files plus recordings.
1. Info->Down->Up

Clear NVM Ram (Settings, favorites, checkswitch, etc)
1. MT+BT Button and then reboot.

EPG Data Delete (Delete all GUIDE files)
1. Info->Up->Down

Revert to Factory Code(Actually last downloaded software version)
1. Recall->PageDown->Up

I would try those in that order and see if that fixes your problem.

Thanks. Useful info. Is there more cmds for 721 and 921 ?
