i live in los angeles and bought a used voom box with dma set for las vegas. signal strength is good.
when i do a scan it stops at each frequency but won't lock in.
is that because of the las vegas dma.
i have tried another hd box with the antenna and it picks up channels just fine so i know something is going on with the box.

my signal strength was in the 90's. now when i play with the box and do a signal strength or scan menu, the box shuts itself off and emits a high pitched tone. i don't think the box is even worthy enough to be a doorstop

Sounds like you have a bad box. One thing you may want to try is to pull out the OTA tuner and then re-insert it, in case it has poor connection. If you have a diplexer attached, make sure to remove it first.

Is my Voom STB activated?
