I have four APC battery backup and surge supressors. MY TV, sat receivers and av receivers and blu ray player are all plugged in. When the power blinks, I never even lose the picture.

Surge protectors will protect from power surges, however they are absolutely useless if lightning directly strikes a line.

Many people equate "lightning strike" with "power surge" though and think they're protected. Take apart a surge suppressor and ask yourself, will these components stop 30,000 amps of electricity ?

I never unplug anything, all my FTA receivers (11), 4DTV (4) and OTA equipment are protected and grounded correctly and I haven't lose anything not even any LNB's.
