Happened to be flipping around last night and turned on ol Doc Scott. Now for the newbies who don’t know who he is, he’s the crazy guy on IA6 preaching the word and in mid sentence will holler “git on the telephone” and if you watch him throughout the day, you can actually see him age. Yes he is dead (died last year) but his preaching still goes on through tapes and his wife who preaches on Sunday.

But I caught a snippet that I really wish I would have recorded. He was letting people know that they were on KU now. He has been on AMC3 analog (or as he says GE3) for years but I guess at the time just started up KU. Reason I bring this up is some of the stuff he mentioned.

He mentioned that “some of you can’t pick us up with the big dish due to zoning rules and regulations. Well the FCC passed a law that says you can have a dish up to 1 meter with no issues” so then was explaining how they are on KU band now along with C-Band. He went on about how to get the dish and stuff and he mentioned that the units sell for around 450 bucks complete (and he said the boxes were tuned to them..pretty expensive setup if you ask me). He kept saying “remember the symbol rate” and had the info on the screen. Telstar 6 11864.750 MHZ, 3.5156 symbol rate

But the two points he drove home pretty well were
“On the big dish, which we are analog, as you scan you see snow then our picture when its zeroed on and then snow as you pass us. With KU we are on digital and digital you MUST be zeroed in on the signal or you won’t pick it up. There is no snow with digital”
“Make sure the right info is programmed into the receiver or it won’t work”

And then he went on about Dish Network and the fact to see him you need a second dish. He said he doesn’t understand why he is in religious category “I should be in the Educational area”. He didn’t like the fact that you need a second dish “I don’t care if its free…put one of them porn networks on a second dish and put KDOC (the channel he is on) on the main dish” and to call Dish and deluge them with calls to tell them to put KDOC on the main dish (which is now on a spotbeam on 119)

I just thought it was weird to hear him talk about KU band, the FCC and Dish all within 15 minutes.

Interesting

Hi Iceberg:
I used to use Doc Scott to locate a certain (forgot which but I think it was G4, then used G4 position to get X4 ku) 4DTV sat while tuning...The Preachers always seem to have the strongest signals! Wonder how they get that on...probably an unlimited source of funding!!!!

I always catch myself on his channel, its like he has subliminal messages coming down his feed. Then again it may be the fact that you never can tell what he is going to say or do next. I personally prefer the "sailor" version of Doc Scott, he always seems a little more millitant in his captain's hat.

My favorite episode has to be when a child makes some noise and interrupts him. He gives a 2 hour scolding to the whole congregation about what age kids can attend the cathedral. He even threatens them a couple times with abolishment.

I say file his show under, "Comedy - Past and Present" :D

Sorry, didn't realize he had died already. Oh well, one less reason for me to ever go to Los Angeles. :)

Iceberg, I watched the same thing last night. I liked his explanation of the FCC rules that require satellite tv providers to provide access to full power over the air broadcasters, but that by requiring you to take an extra step and ask for an additional dish, they are not complying. Thus the need swap the porn to the extra dish and put him on the main dish satellite.

He was a wild and wacky guy, but he sure had some insight and great explanations.

yep. But he was making it sound like Dish was doing something wrong when technically they aren't. At the time there were like 14-15 channels in the LA DMA on the 2nd Dish. The only ones on 119 were ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, KTLA (WB), KCOP (UPN), PBS and KCAL (Ind). The rest were on 148 and needed a 2nd dish.

Dish has since put all but 3 on 119...and his isnt one of them. He's on 119 :)

Yeah, he's a nut but most of what I have heard him say is scripturally accurate. A lot of "modern" Christians (myself included, I know) like to pick & choose which parts of the Word to live by and which to ignore.

He's been on GE3 (AMC3) TP20 for years...very strong signal

WestStar5/5 was the rusty Xponder where he started...Definitely a cornerstone to anyone running a Transportable in the early 80's....

Saw the same thing on Saturday morning about 9:15 CST

Here is a screengrab so everyone knows where he is on KU (the satellite name changed but its the same spot) :)

I wasnt able to get a screengrab of his C-band location (GE3 TP20). It had just disappeared off screen when I tuned it in.

Yes, that's where I first saw him in 1988. The installers when I had my 10 footer at home used Westar 5 to tune him and help find the arc. I never heard of him before and I was a California kid. He was a legend back then as the installers told me everyone in the business used his feed to help with the dish installs. PASS Sports was also on Westar 5 and Sportschannel Bay Area came later. Giants always used Westar 5 to feed the Giants games during baseball season.

I also found the DOC on W3 (4dtv) AMC3 on FTA. I think Scott also is on G4 (4dtv), but do not go out of my way to find him. Reminds me of Scotty from Star Trek, having his ashes sent into space!:D

Hey before I begin.... heres to free speech! I definetely appreciate it that in our worlds (USA/CAN) we can say pretty much what we feel like, and in addition to the old Doctor himself, I have an opinion as well. I think this guy is bordering on CULT type activity. His "teachings" as he would put it may be close to the bible for some, but the personal interpretation and personal beliefs he preaches are simply put....CULT like. I hate it when someone carries themself in such high regard. "BANISH HIM I SAY",...... LOL.

Enough said on this note, again not to bash anybodies opinion out there.

As stated previously, this is a good strong signal to find your way across the good ole clark.
