I am just curious, does anyone ever stop and ask you what your dish(s) are for? I had a neighbor ask me once if I had the new satellite internet. This was back before the Dish 500 was out and you needed 2 dishes. No one has asked me about my FTA or why I was on the roof of my shed for close to 2 weeks every night :)

Not really. The dinky neighbor guy asked me a couple times a while back and I explained what it was for. That’s when he tried the one dish rule for the HOA. He sees me tinkering and doesn’t say anything anymore (he’d always ask “why do you tinker with them so much?” and I would say “same reason you tinker with your motorcycle…to make it better) :D

Now the other neighbor, when he sees another dish up, says “how many more channels did you add with that one?” :D

I don't think anyone around me knows about satellites. There are some Dish and Directv dishes around, but most people just turn it on and go :) I like your response to your neighbor :)

I had one neighbor ask about my BUD. He didn't think you could get anything with them any more. Interesting thing is that I have 3 E* dishes (not in use at the moment) 2 P* dishes and a Fortec 80CM dish mounted on my deck and screened-in porch and nobody has ever said a word. It's kinda disappointing.

All my friends/ neighbors know not to ask about new dishs that go up, they know i will try to convert them to fta (yet again) :D

Years ago when I first motorized I had a neighbor claim I was pointing the (off-set) dish at her home to "Read her thoughts"

The guys in white jackets came soon after to take her away :)

That's a good way to scare people off :) I will have to remember that :)

So why were you pointing the dish at her house? :D

This thread could get interesting...

I have a family member that swears I am going to end up with cancer because of all the antennas and dishes everywhere. Even if I do, I'm gonna blame it on smoking. :D

The neighbors never really say much unless I am tuning the HAM and CB radios which sometimes "accidentally" broadcast through there televisions. Since putting in a shooting range on my property, I don't have many complaints about anything. !protest

My wife used to joke that we need to tell people we are communicating with aliens when I had an 18" and a Primestar up. Around where we live, lots of people have dish, so it's not really that big of a deal. I did get some odd looks from neighbors when I had both an 18" on the porch and the primestar on a pole out in the yard, and the wife said that it looked gawdy. That's around the time I ordered the Winegard to go on the roof. Ever since I went down to one motorized on the roof instead of 2 or more on the front porch the jokes and wierd looks have dissappeared. My mom still thinks FTA is illegal even though I've explained many times that it's not. She just keeps asking if we are going to be fined or jailed for stealing signals even though I've told her a ton of times that there are ways to make this hobby illegal, but we are choosing not to follow those paths.

Since I won't totally need both 18" dishes, I think I'm going to make one of them a sort of shelf thing for the basement where I have a painting studio. It should nicely hold paint brushes, and palletes without having stuff spill all over the place like usually happens.

I had a neighbour ask me what I was doing with the 1M dish as I was fooling with it alot there for awhile(wait I still do!!) anyway a day or two latter his wife asked mime if she was hearing air traffic controllers on out tv.They were hearing it on their cable, my wife told her no that we had satellite not cable.
Never heard another word about it after, guess they got their cable fixed.

My neighbors across the street asked if my 2 1m dishes were used for surveillance or spying. I just laughed and told them it was just for t.v. Soon after they were arrested for selling drugs out of their house. Now I know why they were so paranoid! They probably think I had something to do with their arrest.

before I moved, I used to have people walk down the alley and ask why I had so many dishes, and I told them that I didn't have that many at all, I mean, a dish 500, a motorized channel master 75e, a kti 75cm, a generic 60cm and a 5foot true focus solid... I mean, that isn't very many dishes is it? now if I ever get them all up again, nobody will ever see them because they will all be on the roof of my condo.

My neighbor thinks I found free porn. He sees no other reason for a 1 meter dish, lol. I told him it was star treck porn, haha!

My former neighbor was wondering why I had a dish nearly twice the size of their 18" dish, and if I got more channels this way. I said I probably got more, but it wouldn't be up their alley (being they'd rather have ESPN than Abu Dabhi Sports). Still they were impressed with the "no monthy fees" bit. Later on, they asked if the dish picked up the local PAX affiliate, since Dish dropped it.

The new neighbors just give off stares when I'm out back fine tuning.

My dishes aren't visible from the street, so I don't get any questions. Anyone who knows me knows that I am a rugged individualist, and if someone complains that my dishes look "ugly" I'll just tell them not to look at my property... :D
