does anyone remember when satellite was the provider to have?

Where I live it is virtually impossible to receive any single via OTA, so back in the early 60's a local business man started a cable company. It had 5 channels and cost $3 a month. By the time my wife and I married in 76, it had about 12 channels and the cost was $5.95. At that time the service number to call for problems was still the businessman's home phone. Now that was service. :D

I'm really not sure if my area Ft Walton Beach would be considered small but the only cable provider is COX and I hate their picture. I guess seeing as we have 1 DSL provider and 1 cable provider we'd be a medium sized town yet compared to my old area which seemed much larger, Satellite seems to be a heavily used service in our area.
