WOW!!!! boy am I glad I left Michigan then, wonder how much of a winfall the state will have from the per gallo tax in its coffers.
Unlike sales taxes, most (all?) states impose a fixed per-gallon tax, not one based on the selling price. The states aren't collecting more just because the price is higher.

I hope everyone who didn't buy gas on the 15th is happy. The price jumped by 7 cents today (to $3.21), and I am sure its because now the oil companies have to recoup their heavy losses of the 15th.

When prices got high prior to katrina about two or three years the state reported record funds in its coffers and attributed it to the rise in gasoline prices and the taxes it has on fuel, man when that came out in the news you should have been in the Detroit area to hear all the uproar on tv and radio stations from people calling in. A year later the state reported that it wouldnt have enough money for road projects and again people got all torqued over this after the news from the previous year.

Yeah don't buy Gas on the 15th so that the price of gas will go up please:(

Heres something that makes me wonder, fuel prices go up but motor oil doesnt, I got my oil changed today for $16 at precision tune, I can find place after place that charges $30 -$40 for oil changes but can also find places that charge $20 or less for oil changes that havent changed the prices in a long time both back where I used to live and where Im at now so it makes me wonder how it is that the places that charge less are making a profit.

I know one thing this thread has more than run its course....Van you need to reply though, so that you can hit 3000 posts.

The stations around here that sell Diesel are still selling it for $2.79/gal. These prices have not moved much in the last couple of months. Things that make you go, "Hmmm..."
