Apologies if this has already been asked, but if I downgrade my Dish service - say remove HBO for instance, will I still retain all my DVR recordings? (the ones I've recorded from HBO for instance) ... I have a bunch of recordings, and a bunch more on an external HD, and am trying to avoid transferring everything to DVD if possible. Thanks in advance.

If i cancel dish service will all my recordings still be playable? If not, what about keeping the lowest possible package. Locals only? Does that exist?

Yep. Cancel Dish, DVR'd matter no longer accessible. Restart Dish, still not accessible since your account #, which the recordings are attached to, will be different.

Except for the oldest DVRs, they lock down and won't play after some period of time without a satellite signal.

And there is no locals only package.
