OK Guys let me start by saying that I have installed probably 25 different satellite systems in my different places and friends places. Now I have been transfered to the west coast of Florida and where I live has Directv for the customers. I have Directv at my house on the east coast and I dont really want to open a new account and pay another 50-60 bucks a month. So the Directv installer who was working on someone elses house told me to just buy another box for my house on the east coast and bring it over here. He also told me that it had to be one of the new black boxes. So I went to BestBuy and purchased the DVR Black box last week. I hooked it up and at installation for the box set up was asking for the dish style and there was like 18 different options. How do I tell what is up there? It is an oval with 3 LNB's on it. I was told that one dish supplied 16 houses. I followed the wiring into this big box and inside the box was an absolute mess of wires. Nothing labeled and it looks like a ball of string all tangled up. I was able to follow my line and it looked like it went into a SWM switch with the single wire going to the house.

So I hooked everything up and activated the receiver and I am getting about 75% signal on some LNB and others zero. All three satellites are getting a signal but the one thing that puzzled me was the fact that in the past when I went to the signal screen I would get a beeping sound and when I get a good signal I got a nice solid tone. I am not getting any tone but it is showing a signal on the screen meter.

So can anyone advise what is happening? Can it be that I just have the wrong dish and switch on the set up screen because when it starts to do its thing it comes back with an error message saying cant find satelline signal.

Thanks in advance for anyones help.

Easiest and best way is to knock on one of your new neighbor's door that has DTV and see what their sat selection is on their box.

You know you are probably way outside your "account's" spotbeam, so only CONUS feeds.
